Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

But for the reason of proving your masculinity? That's pretty immature and that's still a mindset in a lot of guys in Ireland. My dad applies that same logic, tthe catch is, he still gets drunk but he says he's not as drunk as young people get and also sure he doesn't hurt anyone...he doesn't but if you get drunk then at least be honest with yourself rather than tell yourself you are well able for it and can handle your drink.

Getting drunk implies a lack of masculinity. It is not the drinking which proves masculinity.Non drinkers maintain their masculinity at all times.

I think the whole thing is ridiculous. When I was younger people tried to show they could hold their drink. Nobody drank before going out as it could result in getting drunk before others in the group thus showing an inability to hold ones drink, which was the mark of a man. Only little boys and outright alcoholics got drunk. The vast majority of people drank publicly, at a bar or table in a pub or hotel and nowhere else.
It is about time some maturity returned to drinking.

Interesting point. But maybe you're over-thinking it?

I think the drinking at home instead of pubs thing is mostly due to financial reasons. We're in a recession.
The price difference between drinking in pubs or in somebody's house/hotel room, is too significant to ignore.

There's something depressing about the thought of people going to a hotel only to spend their time drinking or partying in their rooms.
Maybe they just want to kick back, relax in bed with a bottle , and watch T.V.
I've drunk in many hotel rooms, (bought in off licences) mainly because I'm bollixed tired when I arrive and couldn't be arsed drinking in the hotel lobby watching Sky Sports.
I've also had a brandy or two in a hot bubble bath in hotel rooms, and traipsed about naked after.
    When in Rome.....
There's also the smoking ban to be thought of....(I don't smoke by the way) , but that would factor in for a lot of people.
