Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am a transition year student and was wondering is it very difficult to get in to music in trinity? How many people apply a year?
I play violin at grade 6 and will be grade 8 by leaving time I also taught myself piano and am learning guitar but would it be unrealistic to try to get in?
    Thanks :)

you should speak to someone from trinity, possibly the students union etc and ask them what is required for the course, how many apply and get in each year etc

    good luck!

Very hard to get in, I know someone who went to Maynooth, look up the music department thought, a guy second name Duckworth, he's very helpful and friendly if you could find him on there.

In 2013, 182 applied for 15 places - a ratio of 12.1, which is about the Arts average. However, interestingly, only 73 were deemed "eligible" (i.e. achieved the various matriculation requirements), which is likely a consequence of there being more specific requirements for Music - test, interview, etc. The ratio of eligible applications to places was, therefore, about forty-percent below average. Given so small a number of places, there's likely to be much deviation. In 2012, eligible applicants to places was 55% below Arts average, and was 52% below the year before.

Difficulty is, ofc, relative, so I'd caution about being too influenced by unexplained answers to your question.

A friend of mine who did the course, and who was quite successful at it, told me that he felt as though it was almost compulsory that he learn the piano.
