My friend is mad to get a Bonsai tree but he doesn't know which Garden Centre / Nursery sells them in or around the City. I'd love to pick one up as a special surprise for him so if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it. !

What you could do is get a pre-bonsai... or something which has been started off for you in a bonsai planter, but you have to train it after that.

This place does mail order ones in the 20 - 50 euro range.

For the really old ones, you'll need a lot of cash! They are a fairly specialised item and tend to run into 100's or 1000's.
There is a bonsai place in dublin in powerscourt. http://www.powerscourtcentre.ie/shopping/plants-flowers/the-bonsai-shop/

For local places that do them, I've seen them sometimes in M&S. I've seen them in hanleys, and I know that nursery in glountaune (hillside?) got some for a business a few years ago, not sure if they order them in, or have them there. Griffins in dripsey may do them as well. http://www.griffinsgardencentre.ie/ give them a ring maybe.

I saw Bonsai trees in Woodies in Turners Cross last weekend, although they may not be the variation you have in mind.

I have one myself I had bought from aldi years ago that you can have for free if you like. I've enough houseplants as it is! Still growing healthily but it may need a trim.

The beauty of getting one of the fake but realistic looking bonsai trees is that they never need to be trimmed and they won't be affected by the frost! They're also pretty freely available. It's worth spending a little extra to make sure it's more realistic looking.

Didnt realise the fake ones require so little attention!

By fake do ye mean a plastic tree? **** that, that's no fun! :p

Funny enough, I bought my second bonsai tree and got it delivered just today from that gardens 4 you place. Pretty cheap at about twenty, and they both look very cool (and the second is meant for a gift). Just ignore their advice about keeping it constantly wet and such. I would recommend though !

I got one in a cool colored pot in Kiearnan's garden centre, Douglas. Don't know what variety it is, but it's really hardy!
