Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone know if the playground is open?
Think it was to be open by April, but last time I was there the ground wasn't done.

Kids couldn't take the disappointment if it's not finished again!

Not open yet, nearly finished though so won't be too long I'd imagine.

I saw them. Two big fat mothers on the see saw. Almost broke the thing. Leaving their kids play on the unfinished zip line as well. Mouthing off to people who told them to get out.
Everyone watching agreed that if they injured themselves in there they'd be demanding a payout.

Excuse the ignorance all but where's this? Are they extending / working on the current park where the skate park is?

That's disgraceful, would like to think the guards issued fines for trespassing....despite it not being private property, putting your children in danger like that is straight up stupidity, you can't teach cop on though can you!

Once you enter the large open field with all the playing pitches it's right in front of you on the north west corner.

Great to hear, the skatepark is great looking & the fields are great but lacking somewhat - playground & perimeter walks should be fantastic additions, looking forward to summer trips out there!

Wish they'd extend the parking there- find it terribly awkward- suppose there's not much they can do. I've started wLking there from Supervalu. Some day I'll find myself clamped!

I was down there last sunday and there were 3 or 4 workmen on site, must be a bit of a push on to get it finished, wouldnt be surprised if it was finished now.

Car park is currently being extended - by 40 spaces I think.

Think they are expanding the car park at the moment

I was there on Tuesday and I asked one of the work men at the playground when it was opening; he didn't seem that certain - I think he was only doing the grass as a contractor - but he said roughly two weeks. I wouldn't take it as gospel or as a confirmation, but he did refer to the work being carried out on the main car park and we concluded probably when that is all done, it hopefully will be open. But I wouldn't take it as accurate information. From signs I saw near the main entrance the car park extension started on 6th May and notices warned that there would be parking restrictions for 4 weeks and drew attention to the car park over at the allotments and pedestrian access over the by the GAA pitches (where the old museum used to be, which is now Cork Film Centre or something) so I'd kind of go with end of May/start of June at this stage.

The playground looks fantastic, it is finished, maybe some last few bits need doing and the multi purpose outdoor area beside it is complete too, and so much of the park has been fixed up under the development plan it looks brilliant. For anyone with concerns about dogs and the playground - the playground is fenced in and there are new warning signs on the walkway near the playground warning dog walkers of the playground and to keep dogs on the lead.

If anyone does turn up and it's still closed, there is a small playground near the waterworks buildings down past Lidl and EMC.... if you're really stuck try the playgrounds in Douglas Community Park, Carrigaline, Passage West, Ringaskiddy (small new one), and be ready for the refurbished Fitzgerald's park playground when that is done.

Hurray, finally! Brought the kids out to fitzgerald park last week, for a bunch of tears as they saw the playground replaced by a digger and a pile of mud. Douglas was jointed, they couldn't get on anything.

    lovely new one in Crosshaven!
And you'll pass a massive on in Carrigaline on the way

they would really want to sort out the parking first though, even with the spaces they are currently working on it will be overflowing if they have another day like today,

having two movable food vans taking up more spaces is an even worse idea and tbh it stopped me spending my money there.

today a council man had to stop cars from entering the car park as there were so many vehicles waiting on spaces to open up.

jaysis, and thats on a Wednesday!
TBF though, I'm glad the little cafe thing (cafe Chico?) is there, it isn't taking up a whole lot of space.

it would be better off on the paved/grass area though, or in the park itself by some of the picnic benches.

but yeah it was really bad today, cars even parked up on the stepped grass area's

I agree completely- the car park is not big enough. I have noticed people parking in Lidl car park and walking down- I'm now doing that aswel because I got fed up of being squished into tight parking spots and or being blocked in by another car- which happened twice recently! On a positive note it's a fab park, think they've done a great job on he refurbishment.
    Edited to add:
And when it's the bridge there getting traffic lights??? !

Took a visit during the week but they had closed the car park. Fella on the gate waving people away. 3 unhappy children. Cart before the horse again.

there is another car park behind the church if that ever happens.

U could park by Lidl and walk down? Have been doing that myself for the last few weeks as the car park really gets on my nerves- only so much if other peoples cardoors banging off my own that someone can take- that's when there's a free spot!

What a great amenity . First time out there today. Kids loved it and great walk next to river. Parking is a disaster though. That and the near fist fight two grown men had in the kids play area but other than that I was well impressed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 156 ✭✭Sleephead

I should have added that it is indeed a superb amenity.

Just a shame the infrastructure can't take the traffic.
