Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah so the PlayerXL went belly-up and I reverted back to the regular Player and that worked fine for a while, but now the regular one is playing up now again. It plays the Ads. fine but then when it gets to the programme itself, it just stops working. Latest Error Message I'm getting; - The F4M document contains errors and something about a parsed / un-parsed link broken...... I thought maybe a broken link might have something to do with Windows Updates but nope am all up-to-date no updates to be done.

    :(

Player XL will work for a minute, it runs the Ads., starts the programme and about a minute in it stops working..... :/
XL is working perfectly for me, always has since we found it, one of the slickest video player sites on the net now I must say.

My RTE player had been working fine until about three or four days ago.

Basically, When I click on the play button to watch a programme I get the message-
"This error has an id of 0 and is most likely to have been triggered by a load failure or parse failure of .F4M or plugin content."

I tried to contact RTE Player it didn't allow me, and the message "Try again" kept coming up..

Just wondering if anyone else had this kind of problem or what may be the solution.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Hello. I had a similar problem . If its occurring on the XL player, use the standard player instead. That should work . If not, try a different browser.

You genius, didn't know what you were on about so I googled it and it brings you to a different URL for each video when you select them through this page:

    http://www.rte.ie/playerxl/#s=home

Its perfect, because it seems to be based on the old player not the flashier new one, videos play instantly and perfectly like they used to, thanks for that.

God bless you m8 for this. I was trying to watch last episode of Damo and Ivor on rte player but it always complains about ad block even though I do not have any. I disabled everything even anti virus but it still didn't let me play it.

this playerxl is awesome bit shame it does not show HD...

Was watching Love/Hate on Sunday live on the player and it went offline during that crucial second conversation between Siobhan and Dean, so I had to reload and sit through the ads again so I completely missed that bit, caught up with it later though. I had a different problem with the player back in early September, was just back from Electric Picnic and was starting to watch the RTE highlights on the player, the first part played grand, I then sat through some ads, when it returned to the Picnic I got audio but a blank black screen, very odd. I created a thread here I think where someone told me to copy the url of the player just after the ads and paste it into a new browser and it will play the rest from there again.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Im trying to watch the fall back on the rte player app on the ipad. Every time I go to start the player the ads start to load and the player stalls.

I have tried to use puffin browser on the ipad as well to look at the rte player , but not all the programs are on the rte player site when I view it with the puffin browser

    Hi,
Anyone else having problems with the RTE player trying to watch the 6 nations match between england and wales on RTE2. Want to make sure its working for the Ireland game tomorrow.

The page loads up and then just says 'Live on RTE.ie'

RTE1 is working fine for a live Fleadh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,784 ✭✭✭froog

game is unwatchable. this "service" is not fit for purpose and hasn't been in years. it isn't just this match. constant cut outs, loss of quality, stuttering etc ever since it was launched. and don't get me started on playback programs. you will need on average 2o minutes to get something to play. this is not a private company, we actually pay for this. please people keep bumping this thread until something is done and we get an official response from RTE. they must be aware of the problem. or else they just don't care.

I've been complaining for years. Unfortunately I'm on the US west coast and they regard that as so far away that the Interwebs couldnt possibly handle such a massive distance.

STuttering low resolution and constant rebuffering.

I started complaining bitterly again over the storms last month when I had to go to BBC Northern Ireland to get a weather report from the South.

RTE is real Old School incompetence. "Ah sure it'll be fine".

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 fergaldublin

I only mentioned it because its usually ok. A bit of buffering but ill get over it. I watched last years 6 nations. The world cup and irish soccer games and it was always fine. Have rte found a way to detect yhe use of dns from abroad? I'm hoping it'll work in the morning otherwise itll be bbc

The lipsync seems to be off (sound too fast by between a quarter and half a second it seems). Anyone else noticing this on the RTÉ player, especially the live feeds? I've tried multiple browsers and using a VDSL broadband connection to watch it. It's even happening on the advertisements... Does anyone else have a problem with lipsync when watching shows on RTÉ.ie/live?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,900 ✭✭✭InTheTrees

As regards my post #63 above from February, i've noticed huge improvements; I can watch the news now without constant rebuffering.

Its been a pleasure. SO thanks to RTE for getting it done!

Do you continually get that error message on the desktop?

I've gotten it a few times on the laptop, usually at the ad break, and just have to re load and skip back to where I was and it's grand.

get it after first ad, before show starts, refreshing page makes no difference.

I can watch RTÉ news and RTÉ 1 but not RTÉ 2. It doesn't have the watch symbol beside the channel at the top.

Anytime I click on RTÉ 2 it says "Next on RTÉ 2 Storytime - 07:00" but doesn't play anything.

Been like this for ages now. I can't watch Cork vs Kerry now.

yup, dramatically improved. no issues with the last few matches and shows i watched.

only took them 6 odd years to get to get it right!

    True.

They deserve some recognition, but in truth they've only really managed to get it up to about 2010 standards.

    What android app?

In all fairness when are RTE going to sort out the continuing issues with its player? It's virtually impossible to watch a show without constant buffering. It's almost laughable that they haven't sorted it out after so many years.

I live in Japan and have tried to access the RTE Player on & off for the past few years.
Generally the experience is pretty awful but I did find something of a "work-around".
First, people who think their broadband connection is not good enough may not actually have a problem at all.
I recently replaced my old (10-20Mbps DL) wireless connection with an optical connection. Speednet tests show that my downlink speed is around 500Mbps (yep, 500Mbps !!) most of the time. So, broadband connection is NOT the problem. There is almost zero improvement in the stop-start nature of the RTE Player going from 10Mbps to 500Mbps. Incidentally Uplink is also 100s of Mbps, not that that should be relevant.
The stop-start nature of the player appears to be limited to the Web browser/PC version though.
If I use the RTE Player App on my iPhone, connecting to the same broadband connection I don't have the stop-start problems.
I can then send what I see on my iPhone to my TV using Apple TV screen mirroring and voila !, it actually works pretty well.
So, my theory is that the iPhone App has been developed with some good buffering while the PC version appears to have no buffering at all (which is why pausing & waiting to buffer does not work at all).
For some bizzare reason, the content on the App version is a bit older than the PC version (a couple of days behind).
IMHO, I think they should just migrate everything to whatever technology is used in the App version & update the content at the same time for all platforms.

Or shure isn't it all just grand as it is, like...

Trying to watch Inside Shannon now and it keeps buffering every minute or so. I can watch Netflix and Youtube no problem in full HD. Same thing on the work connection. It's been like this as long as the service has existed.

Absurdly bad level of service and lets not even mention all the ads that seem to stream just fine.

The player seems to be down at the moment, was trying to watch the match.

RTE seem to spend the absolute bare minimum to scrape by on bandwidth for major events, so annoying trying to watch online.

  • Registered Users Posts: 123 ✭✭Clone

We have tried watching Rte player on multiple devices (except i device) and encounter the same buffering issue repeatedly.

All other streaming sevices work flawlessly in HD. Rte is struggling to stream SD.
This has been the case for years. There were some iterations of that worked but no longer the case.

Constantly trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. This time gave up watching a program as it wad buffering more than playing.
I won't waste my time again.

I believe the issue is the bandwidth they have. They probably don't have the hardware infrastructure to meet demand.

Trying to use the rte player (on ipad/chromecast/ipad etc..) in rural Galway. It is very frustrating, constant stalling and buffering and very blurry.
Bizarre as netflix works perfectly fine!

it's pretty amazing this has been so **** for so many years. how hard is it to get a reliable stream in this day and age in all fairness?

Roscommon Galway did not play on Windows 7 Internet explorer or chrome. RTE.ie worked fine in the past on that computer.
I then tried another computer on Ubuntu with Firefox and it played fine. The Windows 7 computer has a better graphics card.
    Very strange.

Sorry of this has been asked before but is there a way to use the RTÉ player app on my phone to chromecast to my telly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 553 ✭✭✭Niall_76

Watching the fai cup final and the RT player keeps jumping back a few seconds and replaying the few seconds and then skips a few seconds moments later.

    Anyone else having this issue?

Twice in the last week i've attempted to connect with RTE Player to watch the news.

Each time it is completely unwatchable. Buffering every five seconds. What the hell is wrong and why is rte incapable of providing a usable service? Its so frustrating and just sadly provincial. Why does it have to be rte who are so useless?

I stream BBC and France24 easily. They seem to be able to provide a usable service. How hard can it be for rte to do the same?

And does anyone from rte ever actually read this thread do you think?

    Same here.

Been trying to watch a two minute clip in their archive and the dreaded spinning circle every few seconds...

Tried different browsers. Updated flash. Same crap. Meanwhile I can watch HD films on Netflix no bother.

It's infuriating. Never known another website which such poor streaming reliability.

Same as. Maybe if they invested a bit more of their revenue into tech rather than certain presenters salaries they might have a player that doesn't resemble a 1990's website.
