Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

cleaning up pc + lost xp cds

    Hello,

Im in the process of cleaning up an old pc for internet use and also building a new PC. The old PC im using at the moment is about 6 years old, 1.8Ghz, 256 ram, fine for internet use.

The problem is the machine is completely slowed down. It was used as a family computer for a few years, then spent a couple of years with me in college, and then spent some time with my brother as his PC. Ideally I would like to completely wipe the hard drive and start afresh.

The trouble is, I cannot seem to find the XP cds!

While at college I had to get XP professional installed on it. The machine seems to have both home edition and prof installed though as I get prompted for a choice during bootup. As far as I remember it was brought to a store near where I live and they installed the prof edition and upgraded the computer with a network card. Unfotunately I dont think they gave me the CD.

Im looking for advice as to my best course of action..

I wouldnt mind just wiping it and installing a different, free OS, but I would really like to have XP prof at least, especially for my new build!

What would be the best way to go about replacing my CDs!
Is it a long drawn out process?

Whats the best way for cleaning a hard drive if decide not to format it?

    Thank you
