Well, I still have a bottle of Johhny Walker Red somewhere that someone bought me as a gift, because refusing that would have been downright rude, but none of my money has gone to Diageo for a long time indeed.

I'm a huge fan of Brewdog, especially the 5am saint amber ale. But yes that fiasco was just the kind of marketing Brewdog thrive on (i.e. controversy a la Mick O'Leary...), I'd say they were secretly delighted!

There's not too many publicans are fans of Diageo to be honest, at least outside of the chosen ones. I remember a few pubs in Cork tried to boycott them in 2008, it was a pity the beer revolution hadn't really taken off yet, they might have had some hope.

Absolutely amazed to see over 25,000 videos of Hitchens on YouTube.

He never visited the site himself, but was delighted of the collection on there. He was amazed by people coming up to him commenting on debates he had been in ten years previously.

What he says about abortion there makes a lot of sense. I think most people believe in an "unborn child" in one way or another. The question is surely when we decide that level of development has taken place.

I'll add the caveat I don't know any more about Hitchens position on abortion.

Not at all. He has been very vocal about his support for the Iraq war for example and his views on the Middle East would certainly make him a hawk. Take away his atheism, he is a classic conservative in many ways.

That's the tough thing about Hitchens - most of his later stuff that posters here are likely to be familiar with certainly does read like opinion pieces, but at the same time, it's hard to pick holes in any of it.

He seems to have been that most rare of public personae, a demagogue with a fundamental respect for fact and logic.

As much as I disagree with his apparently neo-con views I would love to know what he would've thought of the last 5 years and more so the last 5 months.
