Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Pokemon Yellow ..... after 180 hours and countless exchanges( curses,****s and wonky link cables, no wifi here)with primary school classmates as to how "I just wanted to fill the Pokedex and I swear i'll trade it back".............all original 151 pokemon were caught!

One of those mythical gaming moments I couldn't believe actually happened!:D

also during 2 player battles or trades, remember the physical effort involved by us in trying to keep the link cable from disconnecting and possibly effing up your one game save! "You did that" "jesus no i didn't!"

    Great music

Also Pokemon Silver is another classic love the intro

My favorite three were Super Mario on the Gameboy, Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation and this really cool Batman game on the PC -you could create clips and movie scenes of crime and such.

Kick off, and Kick off 2 by Anco.

Both played on the Amiga 512+ and Commodore 64.

Class soccer game, my brother and I used to have epic matches.

Holy sh!t I had no idea what golden axe was so I googled it and i nearly nostalgia'd into a coma.
    Sega - Alex Kidd
    N64 - Golden Eye
    PS1 - Toy soldiers
    PS2 - GTA Vice City
    Gameboy - Pokémon (still awesome)
    Xbox - Halo
    PC - Counter Strike
Xbox360 - Any recent Fifas have plagued my life

    but MOST IMPORTANTLY
    Dreamcast - Toy Commander

Arguably the best game I ever played. Nobody really knows about it though :(

The one that sticks in the memory for me is Alex Kidd, many an hour I spent playing that.

    +1 for Golden Axe aswell.

Blows my mind how few people know about it!! Graphics were class at the time too but the gameplay was soooo good. One of the few games that actually had good single player and multiplayer.

i loved the really old sim games as well, like sim city 2000 and 3000, and the original theme park game

Has to be Metal Gear Solid on PS1. Remember reading CVG magazine in the months leading up to its release. The journalists back then were wetting themselves over this game and the pre-launch hype sort of passed me by. Then a friend of mine picked it up and we spent a Sunday playing it. Absolutely legendary game. All the fourth wall breaking stuff still sticks in the mind to this day.

Super Mario 3 is probably the best game of all time.

Goldeneye multiplayer - I still know the complex map better than my house

Resident Evil - simply for the laughable voice acting "you were almost a Jill sandwich"

Anyone play Thief on the PC? It was released around 1999 and its my favourite game ever.

And anyone that owned a Sega was a loser.

I remember Abe's odyssey. Abe was an anthropomorphic piece of snot. An asshole.

The game I'll never forget is Street Fighter 1. Yes - 1.

Metal Gear Solid as a young fella.

Really was something else! Best game ever at the time, and still the best. Stands the test of time so so well with its story alone.

I would bust a load in my trousers if they released an HD version of it on the PS3.

Multiple endings, so many different characters, so many stories amongst each of them. In a weird way, thought me a lot...probably more than school could have. Such an intelligent game. Good for the head.

I was off school for a couple of days and completed legend of zelda on the SNES with 3 saves. A friend who lived two doors up, who actually has a tattoo of the triforce was sick because he beat it with 8 saves or something before me :D

Flashback for the Megadrive is one game that I'll never forget, and still a very playable game today. Basically a sci-fi Prince of Persia, but far superior to PoP (imho!).

Anybody remember Cyborg Justice (also Megadrive)? The only game for the MegaDrive where you can rip off another robots laser arm, attach it to yourself and then blast him with it. :D

May as well rattle off a list or two:

    MegaDrive:
Sonic 2 - Still remember the "3-d" bonus levels, and the slot machine things in the Casino zone.
    Road Rash - Damn you P.E No.1!
Desert Strike - The only game I actually managed to convince my Dad to play.
James Pond 2 - This is a game I can still play for hours on end.
Streets of Rage 2 - I have the soundtrack on my laptop *ashamed face*.
Italia '90 - Lobbing the ball made a big 'bwof' sound, and the ball sprite got larger to give the illusion of height haha.

    Playstation:
Tekken - I thought I was getting Doom for the Snes, but got a PS1 with Tekken instead. My jaw nearly hit the floor Christmas morning. I can still kick ass with Paul Phoenix.
Destruction Derby 2 - Hours spent trying to spin cars around by driving into them just so. Anybody remember the level with a sheer drop on one side?
Final Fantasy VII - Already said, but this is one of the finest games ever made. Also, the best soundtrack in a game to date.

Hahah used to love that game, smashing kunts with bats.

anyone remember rush 2 on N64? Ramps and **** with the cars was so good

Very early on? Probably as someone mentioned: Flimbo's Quest on the C64. Also did anyone ever play Cauldron 1 & 2 on the C64? You were a bouncing pumpkin that had to collect artefacts in a castle, that was great as well! :)

Later on in the years: Sonic, Golden Axe, Alien Storm, Virtual On, X-com Apocalypse, Might & Magic VI,Final Fantasy VII, Shenmue.

Also, Fiendish Freddies Big Top-o-fun on the C64 is what gave me my fear of clowns & the circus :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,762 ✭✭✭✭stupidusername

I completely forgot about Flimbos quest and Freddys circus! I know what you mean about being scared, that **** was just creepy.

8-bit Circus music was not exactly the most relaxing thing to listen to :D. Also the events themselves you had to partake in it were just very surreal and almost kind of sadistic in a way (being poked by floating trident men as you had to successfully dive into the tiniest bucket of water?). The judges in the game also freaked me out big time.

Yeah feckin hell! Did the bucket keep getting smaller? I knew it wasn't just me being freaked out.

The jump got higher and then the thing you had to dive into got smaller each time I think!

Just recalling some of the C64 & NES games.

    C64:
    Rick Dangerous
    Flimbo's quest
    IK+
    Leader board golf
Kevin Toms Football Manager (before Championship Manager, before everything there was this gem)

    NES:
4x4 off road racing (it had a proper name but can't recall)
Duck hunt, when I found out the controllers controlled the ducks my brother never hit another one in his life!

A few have mentioned Street Fighter 2 however thats a given so lets ignore that.
