Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Only coming around from last night now...

There was a craft beer event in a hotel/bar in Derry. £10 entry and there were 25 beers available and you got about 100ml of each. Obviously I didn't make it through the lot and I was able to swap a few lager tokens for more ale. Drank a good bit of Cloghmore, Brewdog, 8 Degrees, O'Hara's and an interesting apple ale from Drygate, Glasgow. Helped Kinnegar out behind their bar for an hour or so and ended up going home with a mixed case of their beer as well. Not bad for a tenner.
    :pac:

Only had about 4 hours and I was shovelling fancy hams and salami into me too. Some of the pours were more generous too.

Its a pretty good idea with the 100ml vouchers except like you said you end up wanting to avoid some

Some Berliner Kindl that seems to have made a reappearance in Aldi.

I've got it for 4.50 maybe even 4. Usually around 5 (in the SF Bay Area).

I bought it in an off license off Union square so that probably explains it. Still compare to irish beers and prices. It's a steal :)

Trying some Black's of Kinsale IPA. Not sure if I'm a fan. I'm getting a very salty taste from it. Had some Founders Breakfast stout before it and it was absolutely beautiful. Nice roasted, oaty taste to it.

Charles Wells DNA New world IPA, after a 8º Howling gale ale from Ballyhoura, I prefer the 8º as it has more body.
Also been trying some Lava Rock from O'Briens this week.

Beer festival in Nancy Blake's (Limerick City) today. Started with Rogue's Dead Guy. Then Kenmare Irish Porter. Then St Austell's Big Job. Finished my night with a Stone Well medium dry cider. Lovely few hours, naturally.

Drank a Cloughmore Stout last night, I really like it.

    Proper dry stout.

I had a couple of bottles of Galway Bay stormy port last night. I wasn't expecting much but I was very pleasantly surprised. Lovely lovely drinkable porter. Will definitely be purchasing more this winter.

I didn't have it on the old recipe but what it is now is very drinkable. 4 for €11 is a perfect price point too in my local offi

must give it a re-try myself, but whenever I go into TBD and I'm in the mood for a porter or stout I always find it impossible not to order a BAS.

There's no going back from that either, it's so flavoursome.

Had some Sheep Stealer in the headline last night then decided to check out blackbird in Rathmines. Good enough selection of beers on offer. Had some Vietnow IPA and then finished the night with White Hag's Imperial oatmeal Stout.

*Cough* Tesco Value Bitter. It has a 2.1% Abv (I am a fan of Bass Shandy. :o) It's about 25 p. gbp a can. It's very refreshing and good with a whiskey chaser. Not sure if it is available in Ireland.

Very light and mostly pleasant. Only had the one but don't think I'd be on for a session on them. Cinnamon overload, like cold Chai tea!

Just back from the Franciscan Well again, had a bottle of Jameson stout, Jameson IPA, Lowenbrau Oktoberfest, Tjeeses reserva bourbon and a Struisse Cuvee Delphine. Not nearly enough time to sample all that was on offer. I think it was one of the best beer menus they've ever had.

sampled the White Hag Octoberfest beer on tap and bottled over the weekend.
Very tasty and will be hoping to pick up a few more bottles if i can this week

Tried 8 degrees Nelson Sauvin over the weekend not knowing what to expect. It was unlike any beer I've ever tasted before. I'm not sure if I love it or hate it, could go either way..

Goodbye blue monday is a cracking good beer. Very like punk ipa.

This weekend I had, Hitachino Nest white ale, Einstok Icelandic porter and Sierra Nevada pale ale.

Manged to get the very last pint of Black's (Kinsale) Rocket Ship IPA from a pub in Cork. This brewery can do no wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,553 ✭✭✭murphyebass

So I bought a few saisons and a few IPA's by Kinnegar earlier.

Which do I go for first?

I like ipa's but I don't think ive ever had a saison. From what I read it's like a heavily carbonated Belgian pale ale.

    Thoughts?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,196 ✭✭✭MonkstownHoop

Anybody know where the rising road pale ale is from? Having one in the Norseman now pretty bland especially at 6.20 a pint

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,116 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

Had a Dirty Bastard by Founders last night, first Imperial Red and first Red Ale in months. Lovely stuff and a nice break from IPA's. Also think it was priced wrong @ €2.95

    Drink the saison first.
Usually quite dry, moderately hopped with a lovely spicy yeast profile.

Hit that up on Friday. The Struisse Cuvee Delphine was something else altogether, notes of coffee, chocolate and raisins. Managed to hide it's ABV very well.

The dry hopped Saison Dupont was also something special. I've been wiaiting a while to try a Saison that I really liked and I found it in that.

Long wait now until the next festival in the Well.

Having an Innis & Gunn toasted oak IPA. It's alright, nice malt and woody taste. British IPAs are so low on aroma hops though I find, not to my taste. Luckily bought a Punk IPA for afterwards.
