the centra's in salthill and the bottom of eyre sq do pretty decent breakfast rolls. the bacon is pretty crispy and they use good quality sausages most of the time. for a supermarket deli i think they are very well run.

im amazed what some places offer up. i go down to joyces in knockncarra quite a bit. the deli is well set up, and everything looks fresh. but if you ask for a breakfast roll the bacon is just full of fat. the same can be said for supervalu in bearna. how anyone would buy a breakfast roll there is beyond me! ive cooked breakfast myself for 50+ people plenty of times so i know that if you put in a little bit more effort you can get it right.

another thing that surprises me with some of these delis is how they will leave bacon and sausages out for hours, leaving them on display while they look all dry and shrivelled up. at this stage you wouldn't give it to your dog (slight exaggeration:)) but here they are still trying ot flog them!! when the food gets to a stage where it doesn't look appetizing just get rid of it!

Friendliest shop staff in Galway as well IMO. It's like the old style local before the branded/franchises came in. Pity it's so small.

was passing yesterday and decided to grab a roll. Very impressed! lovely crusty bread and fresh ingredients. The lady mentioned they get all their meat fresh from collerans butchers up the road.

shes really friendly hada good chat. mentioned she makes up all her own sauces and likes to experiment with the menu.

Got a packed chicken fillet roll in lovely crusty bread for 4 euro very reasonable.

Think ill be back on sat for round 2!

Have they changed their policy of only allowing 1 sausage in the breakfast roll?
It's about 9 months since I ordered one, and when I asked the server why she was only using one sausage split in two, she said that it was a new policy dictated by the manager. She offered another sausage at extra charge but I declined and went elsewhere.

They are jumbo sausages in fairness if you go during the day in the week the girlls there are lovely and they fill the roll to capacity.

They definitely weren't jumbo sausages when I was there, and you shouldn't have to rely on going at a particular time to get a proper roll.

Thread title is best roll not cheapest roll. The ones from that Londis are the worst, absolutely sh!t. McCambridges and Wards are the best imo, not much to choose between them. Centra/Londis/Spar etc etc are all pretty much the same imo.

Hot Cajun chicken roll from centra in salthill is a good feed.

They heat up the chicken with some swiss cheese and sauteed onions add what ever sauce you want for 5 beans.

A few sneaky pints for the cure can often be added to the days agenda too

I was a long time merchant of the €2 rolls from Londis across from the hospital but that era has come to an end.

Lucks/MacIsaacs has won me over. 2 fillings and chicken fillet roll for about 3.50. They toast the bread so its crunchilicious which sealed it for me, you don't get that in yer Centra/Londis. As cringey as it sounds, there's a great little vibe in the shop, the two working there are sound out, it's like walking into a family kitchen.

McCambridge's and Gourmet Tart, Boojum on the Friday. Also, great breakfast roll in Revive before 12 or 12.30. The food in Gala on Prospect Hill has to be the worst - absolutely vile

McCambridges do a solid roll.

Love their spanish one. Smoked paprika mayo, manchego cheese and Chorizo for 4.50.

One of the only places I've noticed that does pastrami as well. Go there when I'm feeling like a new york style deli one. Pastrami, salami, swiss, pickles and mayo. lovely stuff

Gourmet tart are dynamite!! Yep gala on prospect hill is not great.... Slow to be served and food left sitting for ages ....

Happened to be passing Lucks today so decided to get a chicken roll for a change, needed a bit of comfort food and they were super accommodating when I requested a dabble of curry sauce on the roll (judge all you like, it was yum)

Completely agree with the above poster about the vibe of the place, the lady behind the deli counter is just lovely, jokey and downright a nice person which is leaps and bounds above the usual dead-eyed exchange at most deli counters.
