Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Teletext problem with Sky Digibox

This is a longterm problem that I have with Teletext.

    Example

You look at Sky news then switch over to RTE 1
If you push on aertel and go to page 103 for the News headlines you get pages from SKY.

If you had been looking at one of the music channels it is the same thing
The only garanteed way to view aertel with any problems is to switch off the box on RTE 1 and set it on again and then go to aertel
    .
I am sure that I am not the only one with this problem and am also sure that someone has a handy solution.

ps This only happens on the Sky box.No problems with non dedicated receivers

The only solution I found was to use the TV remote for text purposes.

    Cheers,

This happens to me all the time also. I think I read somewhere its a known fault with Grundig boxes, but don't take that as a certainty.

No need to switch off your TV or Digibox. You could just wait for a minute or so for the TV to recognise and decode the pages from Aertel after being on Skytext. But if you don't want to wait then try this:
I presume you're viewing your Digibox on an AV channel on your TV. After you select RTE1 on your Digibox, just change your TV to any channel (say Programme 1 for handiness sake) and then just switch back to AV to see Aertel immediately when you select the text option.

    Should work!

    Thanks for the ideas,
Switching the SKY button on the RCU also does it but then you have to push the TV button again for text.

BTW the digiboxes are Pace 2500 and Pannie TU DSB 31

I'm not sure it is really a Sky problem anyway. It happens with NTL MMDS too. It takes a moment or two to recognise it is on a new channel and to use the new channels teletext. Or that's how it seems anyway.

It's not a sky or ntl fault - this is a "feature" on your TV whereby it "caches" the main pages of teletext on a channel so that if you press text, it pops up straightaway and browses straight away. So, if you switch over the digibox channel, the TV thinks it's on the same channel (it is, AV1) and so takes a few seconds to start re-caching the teletext pages.

How come the problem only occurs (in my case ) on my Sky boxes and not on non dedicated boxes ?

I often use my PC Sat card for RTE teletext, I can't get picture or sound, but the PC teletext SW caches the ENTIRE magasine and lets you jump to any sub page.

It also can export every magasine on every sat channel to a single browsable web site with stations as top level.

My Palcom DSL4 (from www.satellite.ie) is also excelent have a built in Teletext viewer that also caches about 300 pages. While it doens't allow browsing sub pages (you wait fro them to roll around unlike PC), it does work even if TV has no teletext and uses Pageup/Pagedn remote keys with OK button to "browse" the 3 digit numbers on pages like hyper links.

It too works on encrypted channels for teletext such as RTE or BBC Prime.

Happens on Palcom DSL4 too. If you select a channel with Teletext on Sat Box and then change to one without and press text on TV remote you get the last page 100 from the other channel.

    It is not a bug.

Maybe your non-platform boxes are special, seano! :D

All I know is, my sony 32" (which has 250 page text memory) HAS this "problem" and my 15 year old JVC (bog standard teletext) does not - both through ntl and sky digital.

Yes, I think chorus techy is right. It's this caching which helps make "Fastext" fast!
