Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

RAID - USB External drive ?

    Hi all

RAID box, USB exteral dual drive

Are any of you using such a device? I know there are a few being manufactured these days. I'd like to explore the possibilities. I'd ideally like a RAID level hot swappable box that connects to my pc via USB / FW / Cat5. Would like the device to have two physical drives that handle mirroring.

Is this feasable? Are these devices available ? Any experience ?

thanks for that, only 1 problem. the device is €113. The I'd have to ad 2 x 500GB ESata's @ €115 each approx. Then lets say €15 delivery. We are now upto €358 for a device that will not take any more than 500GB (for mirroring).
Apart from it being out of date in terms of available storage, I think its a bit pricey. Or am I being unreasonable ?

    I'm comparing it to this
    http://elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=MME1410601
which seems to do the same job (plus NAS) for €187

The elara device is the same size HD disc wise, two 500Gb drives, they use RAID0 to get the 1Tb

    thanks again

I see that the 500Gb spinpoints for 119 are SATA2. Is this compatible with eSATA? Would they work in the Thecus box ?

secondly, my worry about the Thecus, is that when I fill my first 500GB of data, and its time to put in two new 500GB disks, 500GB disks may no longer be available.

Feel free to call me a twat, I may be making something out of nothing. Still a useful discussion hopefully.

eSATA is just an external connection for SATA I / SATA II so to answer your question then yes it is compatible.

While the device suggested by gadgetman is inclusive of discs, it only has USB connection and no eSATA, you'd have to make a call as to how you want to connect it.

Don't worry 500Gb drives will be around for a goosd while yet.

Have you read any of the reviews on Komplett for this?

    Example:

This one looks like a much better option (Better reviews)

It comes with the two drives & has both USB & Firwire connectivity.
