One reason for taking them down is they will all want us to forget all the rash promises about abolishing water charges, sorting out hospital waiting lists, creating jobs etc.

The sad things is that Councillors have no power to do the above.

But why pretend that they do? The counties are run by the civil servants who appear not to be resonsible to anyone except their self serving selves. Our county council offices don't even answer phones

The elected Councillors meet for the first time today officially.

All positions, committees etc should be known after today. The same slicing up of roles occurs across all councils nationally.

Regarding water, nothing can be done at council level. The household tax can be reduced by 15% apparently at council level. It'll be interesting to see who votes against the budget and who votes for it at council level as the household tax maybe included within that budget.

Finally, party political posturing rarely occurs at council level, particularly in Fingal. That's a positive.

I though FG said that would only happen of they controlled the counsel?

A fair few councillors were promising to use the 15% reduction. (I'm pretty sure I saw it on the Shinners, the socialists and Fianna Fáil [Chambers] leaflets)

Interesting to see how that works out as they weren't offering to cut any services as well :pac:

I suspect is that most of the public does not really know what the CoCo powers really are

A lot of newly elected councillors did not know or still do not know what they can and cannot do. The re-elected councillors would know exactly what the can and cannot do.

Some NEWLY elected councillors will find they cannot get houses for anyone :-)

What is important is balancing the books with the budget and some fairy tale economics will be exposed shortly if total opposition is evident from some.

Contrary to popular belief, there will be quite a few councillors who know exactly how council works and work with it.

Did you read the recent release of expenses claimed by our local councillors?

2014 is not in this one, but here's a look back over the previous council 5 year term.

The annual payment to a Councillor before expenses etc is €17000. After expenses it may get to about 20k, whilst others (very few) will get to 30k, 40k or even 50k if they serve as a mayor or lead certain committees.

€17k is a part time payment for what realistically is a full time work load. It's good value to the state in my opinion.

I'm sure that's outside his Office. He wouldn't leave a poster up on purpose or have missed it.

If it's on a building near the Spar then it's his office.

I thought as much! My 6 year old was giving out about it as we passed today- I was driving so couldn't look. I forgot his constituency office was there. My mistake.
