A mate of mine signed up to a dating website for the first time in his life. He's in his 30's. Up until now, he thought anyone who used the internet for socialising was a loser. He then calls me with the clanger today, "er, i got a few replies to this ad..."

anyway, he put his modesty aside to a sec to tell me of an opportunity he received from a girl he was emailing. They emailed a bit, swapped pics and she asked him if he would like to meet next week and she would be visiting Dublin. (I think she lives in Cork) He showed me her pic and she looks hot, she's half irish, half italian. She emailed him her number

Anywho, he rang me for 2 things. One was to know if he should meet a girl so forward and the second thing was to ask me what kind of phone number she had cos it was a weird number....

,,,, she gave him a Nigerian mobile phone number!! He quickly came down to earth.

He is just going to ignore her but I reckon he could have a bit of wind up fun here. Any suggestions? Im already familiar with the 419 stuff so original suggestions only please?

Maybe the boardscast team could go undercover hidden microphone style?

Wouldn't the best option be to actually meet in a public place and confirm before assuming it was a scam? If it's not the girl in the pic or she can't explain the number then he just walks away?

If a scam threat a killer call or handshake

ya a friend of mine tried a few of them and either they were looking to launder money through them or they were looking for a marrage so they can stay in ireland. Its a shame really cos im sure the dating online thing might actually work i duno.

I presume it's some manner of premium rate numer - they'll try to get you your friend to call and make a lot o'dosh off his call credit.

Or else the girl is just back from Africa and hasn't had a chance to get an Irish number yet. Maybe he should call her and meet up with her in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town, just after sunset.

Yup. That's what he should do. Definitely. :D

Ah now faceman has often told us that he's a whizz with the ladies, he'd never have to resort to the seedy back alleys of the online dating scene now! :D

Meet up with her, gush over how beautiful she is etc, bring her for a savage expensive meal complete with candles that your eyes can meet across, order the finest foods and wines to dazzle her with your affluence and then when you're fed and sated and she's looking forward to getting her claws into your wallet, leg it and leave her with the bill.

Yeah I know. It's a bit of a crazy idea. But, she probably won't put out anyway!

This way though, you definitely get something out of it other than cloned credit cards and your identity stolen even if it is just a nice meal.

You know you'll never see him again but you will start getting texts off him saying stuff like:
Just before he died my boss made me a large beneficiary in his testament and will. As such I received a bonus in work due to credit mixup and as to tax man interest I cannot hold it my account for due time. I know you a good man strong in faith and feel that please send me your details and as God is my witness I will send you ten percent.

    Your friend in Jesus.

    Friend of Faceman

I'm actually scamming one of those 419 scams at the moment. I was bored yesterday and scoured through my spam mail, and started replying.

Yeah it's great craic to go after the scum like that in honour of all the poor suckers who fall for it.

As for this case, it could be a scam. But then again he could meet her, get it on, and then when the scam bit arrives that be it.
