Aye a lot of updates atm. We had a 4.3 earthquake this morning which accelerates the prediction of a major eruption. A few more of them and we'll be laughing.

They've also found rhyolitic material in samples taken from the sea. Sets up the potential for a more explosive eruption

Interesting in your pic how the clouds form an almost perfect circle over an area, is that the main area where things have been happening ? Would the temperature or gases be likely to affect cloud traffic ? :) (total ignoramus here)

edit : and while I'm here thanks to the experts who post on this regularly, I thank posts here and there a bit at random, but catch up on the thread regularly, and even though I don't understand much I find it interesting.

Wondered about the cloud circle also. I know there were some atmospheric anomalies just before the Japenese earthquake. Wondered if the cloud circle was connected.

Tremor activity is starting to go through the roof in pockets, returning to pre eruption status.

There was a mag 3.8 at the location marked HERE overnight. Getting rather lively on that plate separation boundary what!!

Time for somebody to bring up the thorny subject of snow and subtropical earthquake swarms methinks.

    Update 07/11 – 17:57 UTC :
The whirlpool activity is still very strong and so is the harmonic tremor graph who is still saturated. The graph shows almost continuous submarine explosions. The current activity is needed to feed at least 3 active vents who are spewing magmatic material into the sea. Sometime later today or later this week, on condition that the current activity continues, the explosive phase or Capelinho’s / Surtseyan phase will start.

    Update 07/11 – 18:09 UTC :
    - Joke Volta sends a message that the size of the jacuzzi is constantly changing at the moment (she can see the jacuzzi now from her garden at El Pinar)
    - The webcam they have installed at El Pinar is of NO use as only big eruption may be seen with it. We need uregntly an HD webcam which can eventually be directed by Raymond or somebody of AVCAN, in other words skilled people.

I wonder how long it will take for the volcano to grow above the water. It would be amazing to see the birth of a new volcano like that!

Apparently there are rocks being ejected out of the water & not a working webcam or any footage anywhere....why isn't there video coverage of whats happening? So frustrating, we could be missing the birth of a new island/volcano! I thought there would be swarms of people at el hierro filming whats going on...its only the 21st century lol

The flora/fauna of the region will be destroyed.

Yeah and diving is one of it's main attractions, i guess thats out of the question for a while, years probably.

Will be a great site for scientists to watch a new island develop and be colonised by new flora and fauna.

We could watch too, I nominate Iancar29 to go on a "volcano chase" if you will, and mount a webcam for us!

Huge missed opportunity with no decent web cam.

The third post above with the picture that Sponge Bob posted shows so clearly that El Hierro's mother is returning ~ I've not seen the ancient Caldera [the remains that is El Hierro] so clearly in other images.
