    They looked flimsy enough to me when I saw them first hand.

    And pricy by comparison with online.

    The thing I thought when I saw them first was that they might be suitable for homebrewing, but on further inspection they seem very flimsy. Personally I wouldn't trust them.

    As they are 1L they would usually need to be thicker to handle the same pressure as a smaller bottle, so you cannot just eyeball it and say it looks the same as my small ones.

    I used schweppes glass 1L bottles before. I did have one explode outside but it was very pressurised, the cap was almost round.

    I have a well carbonated beer four weeks in the IKEA bottles so far so good!

    They're not. I'm 90% certain it implies this on the label that comes on them. I suppose if you're going for a beer level of carbonation it might be OK. I wouldn't use them with cider though.
