Possession stats would make you drool.

Cazorla and Wilshere can't seem to play together as it is and you want to bring in another attacking central midfielder?

We would be better off looking for a DM or replacement for Arteta or spending the money on another striker.

They cant play together because we play Santi out on the wing, Fabregas coming back is only a fantasy. I think it should be
    Capoue Wilshere
    Cazorla

This is a bit of a tired argument. We've been taking plenty of shots. Yesterday; Cazorla, Walcott, Rosicky and Ramsey all had several shots each. A lot of them were blocked but you can't accuse them of not shooting.

    I disagree.

We scraped a 1-0 against Fulham.
Fulham were down to 10 men after 12 mins.
Arsenal had 72% of the possesion
Arsenal had only 14 shots versus 10 for Fulham.
Fulham managed 7 corners to our miserly 3 .. against 10 men.
Fulham were more attacking and had 8 offsides versus our 3. At least it shows they played it into the opponents third
    Arsenal had 768 passes
    Fulham had 285 passes.

so lets say Arsenal had 3 times the possession and 3 times the number of passses...
to my mind we should have had
    30 shots
    21 corners
    24 offsides
    or there abouts

Id wager Arsenals goals per amount of tiem of possesion is the worst of the top 8 teams in the PL.
Id wager Arsenals goals conceded to amout of time opponents have possesion is also the worst of the top 8 teams in the PL.

And I still dont understand why Ox didn shoot when put thru against Everton in the last few mins, instead of squaring it to Giroud who had two men around him.

edit .. you can get those stats on fulhamfc
    http://www.fulhamfc.com/match-centre/2012_2013/league/home/arsenal

but strangely enough Arsenal.com doesnt report match stats to that detail , conspiracy theory... they do say Wenger controls everythign at the club :-)

If he'd had the length of time you've had to think about it, chances are he would have shot. Unfortunately he didn't and he made the wrong choice. He's still very young and this will hopefully contribute to his learning process. I don't think it requires any more analysis than that.

Jesus, that's not how it works at all. Show me any game where a team has gotten that many shots, corners and offsides this season.

Also re. your wager that we have the worst goals to possession in the top 8. I'm 90% sure that both Liverpool and Everton (at least) are significantly worse going by this from January. Also City were very comparable to us there.

    Pffttttttttt
Oh well when you put it like that.
    Dear god..........
    That is a good point.

If Wenger sits around and continues taking his massive wage while the board keep creaming a massive amount of cash off the top and Wenger does nothing about it then it's hard to make a case that he cares about the club any more IMO.

Think we need 9 points now. Chance missed there yesterday in not getting the second goal when we had them on the rack for the first half hour. We'd have beaten them if we had imo. As it was; a draw was probably a fair reflection.

After me praising Sagna and wanting to sign him up he goes and has a game like that too :pac: Still think he should be offered a 2/3 year deal. Yesterday aside, he's been good this season imo.

We really are lacking a cutting edge up front. Team needs a decent bit of work in the summer in the right areas. I think AW needs to sit down and consider (a) whether he has the heart for another 5 years and (b) if he does, he needs to strategise as to how to get us back eating at the top table again. It needs to happen at every level in the club; from commercial deals to how we play on the pitch.

I think we want Sunderland to beat Villa tonight. Need to get Villa wound up for their game against Chelsea so that they have to win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,596 ✭✭✭✭cson

Tbh I'd want the opposite. I'd want Wigan on the cusp of relegation when we play them so they have to go for it. Made for Walcott.

It'd also mean Newcastle would be safe and that game would be a dead rubber for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

As it stands our next two games could be against two relegated teams!

    are you wenger in disguise...
he spent 5 years saying the same thing about Bendtner.. that he was young.
he passed because Wenger has coached him to pass, he has taken the natural goal scoring instinct out of him an trained him to always look for the pass before being a bit confident himself and having a pop

    watching villa destroy Sunderland..
6 goals and 53% of the possesion with only 350 passes...

Bayern Munich had 37% of the possesion against Barcelona and manged to beat them 4-0

and yes offsides do indicate something in a match, they indicate the times you have tried to get the ball into the oponents third of the field .

but heh I know statistics can be confusing to some people and they would rather believe in French hyperbole...

What the hell has gone wrong in this thread the last couple of weeks, the amount of absolute dribble being posted is insane.

Valid points are always welcome along with discussion, but some the posts are pure balls out argumentative for the sake of being argumentative and borderline retarded.

On Arsenal nervous as fook about the remaining games, nerves are shot I just want this season over with hopefully with a somewhat happy ending of Champions League qualification and for the first time a summer were none our top players leave and instead of replacing we just purely build upon what we have.

Totally agree 9 points from last three, its all we can do!

The same way he coached Anelka, Henry, Van Persie, etc ? Even Walcott is improving his shooting ability. Yet it was Wenger's fault that given a split second to decide he made the wrong choice. I suppose when Ox hit the bar twice against Swansea, he was looking to pass the ball ? Absolute rot !

What's gone wrong this year is the same as what's gone wrong every year for the past 6/7 years. People are seeing us in the same position i.e fighting for that Top 4 position, trophyless and wanting new players to make a charge in the following season.
The only difference is that this summer we won't hopefully have our best players departing and with money in the bank we might just get the players necessary to mount a challenge. Hopefully anyway. Then again we have been told about this available pot of money for some time now.
A bit of success is all thats needed and everyone will be happy.

That's the line the media **** out constantly but its really really not true. All of us with memories longer than 2 years know we had a few title challenges in that time too and its only really the last 2 seasons where top 4 has been in doubt.
Agreed with the rest. A summer where we sign a striker and a DM, keeping everyone else together and we won't be in bad shape at all. This season has been a massive missed opportunity. Investment or not, we only had to beat Bradford, Aston Villa and Swansea to win the League cup and Blackburn/somebody crap/Wigan to be in the FA Cup final

    ColonialBoy's post is absolutely batshiit

I pass no remarks of the media at all. We have to aim higher than Top 4. We need success. When that does not come then we make do with Top 4.
I have a longer memory than most here as I saw us win our first double way back in 1971.
I fairness I agree with you that we have been close over the last number of years but we always lacked or hadn't the foresight to invest the necessary spending that would have made all the difference. We were always that few players short.

They should be on a high after hammering Sunderland tonight and I would hope for them to draw with Chelsea but jeez they are so bad at the back hard not to see Chelsea pull them apart.

If he wants to go, he should this summer or he should sign a new contract and stay. We can't have a lame duck manager for 12 months and with a new spine of the team to be bought this summer, we can't have a lame duck manager in charge of those signings. Managers such as Heynckes and Pellegrini could be available (or Moyes even) this summer so we should be decisive.

Don't think he will leave till 2014

If he does go I wouldn't mind as long as we get the right man in

He wouldn't be at the top of my list but let's face it, we have to lower our expectations after the last few years under Wenger. A couple of years ago we had a squad that might tickle the fancy of the likes of Klopp etc but he wouldn't look twice at us these days. So much of our immediate future rests on placing 4th at the very least this season.

A good few of the bookies have adjusted their odds in the light of the Telegraph story - I guess it's more credible than the normal Twitter rumours.

Currently the averge odds bring in Moyes as favourite at 5/2, Laudrup at 10/1 and Mourinho at 16/1

On saying that, I'd be surprised if he will go having talked about re building, there again, if he's not in agreement with the money spend, it could be a trigger.
