I'm hoping to be a doctor in the future and thought it might help if I learned sign language. Just out of curiosity, how many hours learning would you say it would take to get a decent grasp of it? I won't be starting college till next year so I'm in no rush now - just curious.

I appreciate your very good intentions, but there might be better ways to direct your energy. Just like any other language, you'd need to be using and practising ISL regularly in order to keep up your skills. Without this regular use, all your hard work in learning the language will go to waste.
