I always thought the google ads that pop up were dependent on your search history in Google.

A certain amount of them are, but can be targeted based on the content of the page hence why they are showing up in PI's about escorts and such. But with google ads when we block them the advertisers can get crafty and have multiple click through urls (which is how we block them) to get around sites blocking their ads and that url will eventually redirect to their site.

There's a host of suspect "meet teh wimminz online nao!" ads popping up lately. I saw one for CougarLife.org on the Atheism/Agnosticism forum just there, which is odd as Beruthiel doesn't post there too often

And there's a dodgy American apparels ad, spotted in rotation in the Nocturnal forum.
