Hey i was thinking of doing the 3D modeling and animation course in the pulse college (ringsend road). I know its mainly an introduction to using Maya. I have a basis in animation and 3D modelling systems (in other words i know the theory/history of animation and i can sorta use Blender)

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this course. Or if there's any other short courses available on the topic. Not year long college courses but a few weeks long

I think introduction courses like this are always better done online. Considering its 12 weeks without any recognisable certification other then just being able to say you did the course I cant see any major advantage of doing it. Especially at that kind of price too. Im not knocking the course itself as I know Pulse has a great reputation but €1200 for a 3 week Maya introduction course is far too much. I have a premium subscription to Lynda.com and it costs me around €300 per year. For that I get unlimited. very detailed and comprehensive video tutorials on pretty much any application I can think of.

Or for roughly €400 per year you could have a subscription to The Gnomon Workshop. They actually specialise in Maya and what I have seen of their tutorials are fantastic (they go quite a bit further in depth then Lynda.com). Have a look...

Its totally up to yourself but I think you'll get a whole lot more out of the online route, and its far better value. Hope thats some help anyway.

I was looking at that college to but the price they ask is insane !! INSANE !!! anyway if you are self motivated id go with the gnome workshop.

Their is plenty of great free tutorials online tho they are just hard to find because every thinks oh il make a tutorial, http://poly-face.com is great if you have the patience to listen to the chap ramble on some times

Did you have any luck with finding a course?
I have found myself in the same position as you were in last year but I can't find a course. I've found tutorials frustration as they are mostly disorganised without direction.
I'd appreciate your thoughts!

In ballyfermot college they have classes which are being run by guys in brown bag they are doing classes on animating in maya and modelling i think you might want to check that out its 160 quid not sure how long the classes go on for, anyway might be worth looking into im not sure of the skill level they are aimed at.
