Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Famous Non-White Irish People?

This guy's name is Rogers Cole-Wilson and he's become something of a sensation in Poland, mainly because he's black:

After thinking for a moment about how darling that fact was, it hit me that I couldn't think of any famous black people over here, either. Or any other non-white ones. Have we any?

And no, foreign descendants of Irish emigrants from a billion years ago don't count.

Precisely why I thought it was darling, Darling ;)

I forgot about Phil Lynott because a) he died before I was five, and b) I've never seen a colour photograph of him.

If the title was famous red-haired Irish people would you reply the same?

Its interesting enough to some that they replied so maybe if you're not interested, which is fair enough, you could no reply then. Simples.

    Out in the fields,
    the fighting has begun.
    Out on the streets,
    they're falling one by one.
    Out from the skies,
a thousand more will die each day.
Death is just a heartbeat away.

The Irish are the blacks of Europe and Dubs are the blacks of Ireland and north Dubs are the blacks of Dublin, so say it loud, I'm black and I'm proud.

A few years back, the bould Peter made a few remarks about the 'coloureds' on the Irish team...meant in less than a complimentary manner..evidently somebody remembered. Would have been funnier if they said he had a civil partnership with Nigel Dodds though.

Immigration is a relatively recent development here so not too surprising.

Apart from the ones that people have already mentioned like Phil Lynott and Paul McGrath I can't think of any. Googling for "famous black Irish people" results in something entirely different than what I'm looking for.

Jimi Hendrix had an Irish grandfather. In American terms having one Irish ancestor is enough to make him 'Irish'. Or at least it would if he wasn't black and 'African American'.

The guitar duo Rodrigo Y Gabriela are from Mexico but made a name for themselves after they emigrated to Dublin and befriended Damien Rice.

I do indeed thanks! It would have been even funnier if he was in a non-consensual grope with frank bruno and nigel dobbs!
