I'm trying to get at the motor on my Zanussi ZWF 1210W washing machine so I can change the brushes.

I thought there would be a panel on the back of the machine I could take off to access the motor which is at the bottom. There isn't, the back is solid 1 piece.

I can easily remove the top of the machine to access the electronics ontop and can see the motor at the bottom but how do I get at it???

    Cheers
    :D

the chassis splits in 2.if you havent done it before then i wouldnt advise trying it.there is away of changing brushes without removing motor. from underneath machine but again i wouldnt recommend it unless you have done it before

Thanks a lot G.MAN, I spotted that it splits in half but I was able to access the motor from below and get at the carbon brushes.

Strangely the brushes in my Zanussi were for a Bosch / Siemens motor, part number 154740 (spring loaded brush). Very strange, I got them from a very helpful guy in Bray (Town Hall Electric Bray 01-2863655) for €18.50

I know you can pick these up on ebay for £5-£8 (i've ordered a spare set tonight for £5.09 including delivery to Ireland :D) but to get them today when I needed them and for less than €20 was fine with me :D

Anyway I fitted the new brushes and machine is working like new so i'm delighted.

Just one thing for anyone fitting his kind of 'open' spring loaded brush; you need to make sure they go in the correct way so that full contact is made with the motors armature. Best way of doing this is to carefully note the way the old brush comes out when you unclip it so you know which way to put the new one in.

I initially put them in the wrong way (forgot to note the way the old ones came out :o) and the motor made a horrible noise when the machine started spinning; it also didn't spin at full speed.

Solution to above was to take out both carbon brushes again, put one in first, spin the motor by hand and note if any noise, if there is a funny noise just reverse the brush, if no noise it's ok. Repeat this for other brush on other side and your done :D
