Can I ask for help with two questions?

    1. Which Irish actor spent all of November staring down from a six storey poster on Dublin's Liberty Hall?

    2. The father of which Fair City actress was a marvelous character actor who delivered telling performances in a series of movies in the 1950's and 60's opposite luminaries such as Michael Redgrave, Christopher Lee and Marlon Brando.

I feel the first question is unfair to those of us outside Dublin. Any help much appreciated. Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know who this actress is?

Looks to me like a young Grace Kelly.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

It's the RTE Quiz? Then there's got to be an Irish connection - which still makes me think of Grace Kelly, whose Irish roots were well-known.

Catherine Byrne (her father was Eddie Byrne)
Have you the answers to 17 and 26 please?

I have Aisling O'Neill for that one (her father was Chris O'Neill who was in the Riordans).
Q17 is "The Long Day Closes". If you do a Google image search with it's name the exact pic shows up.
I have no clue of Q26 I'm afraid. I think it might be Veronica Lake or even Diane Cilento (she was married to Sean Connery).

NOt sure myself! Maybe an atypical photo of Veronica Lake, but am open to correction.

I've done some research and I think Catherine Byrne is a better answer than Aisling O'Neill! :D Thanks for that. So just Q26 left to answer! Can anybody identify this actress:

Could well be. It's hard to tell without the typical hair though!

Definitely Eddie Byrne. He was in 100s of movies.
Virginia Mayo!! or Grace Kelly No.
I'm beginning to think it's a more modern actress made up to look
like someone from the Grace Kelly era.
    What do you think?
    Thanks for 17.

I'm completely stumped. I posted the actress pic on the IMDb forums, Yahoo Answers and theanswerbank.co.uk. No luck. Funnily enough when you say it could be a modern day actress the answers on Yahoo Answers said it was Gretchen Mol. I seriously doubt it though.

I also tried TinEye and GazoPa without success. I emailed William Gallagher who was the BBC Ceefax film critic and he didn't know. I posted the pic on the Empire magazine forums. No answers.

The problem is if indeed it is a 50s/60s era actress then that's well before my time. I'm keeping an eye on theanswerbank.co.uk in the hope it'll get answered when other people are doing and answering the quiz over the holidays.

Anyone come up with any more names.
I showed it to a friend and she thought it was Aisling O'Neill!
    from Fair City.
I've never seen the programme, so can't really comment.

    From the RTE website:

She's not even blonde to begin with. I think I'm gonna go with Veronica Lake personally.

Yeah, I'm going go with Veronica Lake as well. It looks just like her. And during the war she took part in a government campaign to get female factory workers to pin their hair back (it was getting stuck in the machines), so it's quite likely that she was photographed like this at some point.

    Thought it was John Cazale?

I'm kicking myself over this one already, but the other picture question - the young lad in the cinema, no. 17 - which film is that?

I think it is her sister Joan Fontaine probably taken from Rebecca.

It's Valerie Hobson, an English actress who starred in "Great Expectations" and "Kind Hearts and Coronets". She has dark hair, but must have been blonde at this stage in her career.

If you don't believe me, Google her name in Images and you will find the picture on page 10!

Thanks to all the contributors for the other answers.

    Good work.

    Here's the image:

    Found it here.

Tricky one though, since that is not how she generally looked.

Awesome! Never heard of her! :o Would never have got her in a million years. Don't know what I'm going to do now since I sent off an entry with Veronica Lake! I hope multiple entries don't disqualify. :) Many thanks.

I've tried everywhere else and can't find the answer to Question 13, which football team does Colin Farrell support in Veronica Guerin. I thought it was Man Utd as that's the team that she supports in the film and they talk about Eric Cantona, but someone told me it was Shamrock Rovers and was Colin Farrell's little private joke. Does anyone know for sure?

    Thanks in advance.
