I had a wisdom tooth removed last month.
I had to go to a specialist in Cork,my local dentist said he cant remove them anymore due to recent legislation.
Went to specialist ,up into chair, received a few injections and about 7 minutes later he starts pulling the tooth out.All done in 10 mins and the price .... was 295 euro .
Crazy money in my mind ,it wasnt exactly rocket science.
My local dentist told me that specialist only works 3 days a week and does about 15 extractions a day.Nice money if you can get it.

Specialist treatment is more expensive, dont feel hard done by cause it was quick. Did you want him to drill and pull for 30 minutes to justify his fee? Cause he was good at his job he should earn less?

Wisdom tooth - with Oral Surgeon under local 250-350 euro, with general dentist 80-200 euro.
Filling 60-200 depending on size and material.

there could be more to it than you think. you won't catch me doing serious surgery like impacted wisdom teeth for 295euro

    Serious surgery,pulling a tooth ? Are you serious ?
What he was doing looked pretty basic and primitive to me .
I acknowledge that dentists are highly qualified and you need good hand dexterity but pulling a tooth is a very basic procedure.

Why couldnt your own dentist do it then, must have been difficult if you were referred? The is no legislation saying what a dentist can and cant do.

He said he used to do them up to a few years ago but doesnt anymore ,he mentioned legislation /insurance changes .
He said my extraction was straight forward ,"money for jam" were his words

you realise there is a difference between primitive "any old idiot could do it" extracting a tooth and removing an impacted wisdom tooth?

I might consider getting off my ass and doing it if someone offered me 1000 euro, only consider, mind. There are easier ways to make money.

very hard to comment without seeing x ray of tooth. most of things are very easy until something goes wrong! I would say you are better to be with a cautious dentist who referred you to get the best possible treatment rather than a "have a go Henry" who may have got you into trouble. seems a bit cheeky of him to slag off specialist (money for jam) when he was not prepared to do work himself!
