Following on from the extra channels found in Waterford City (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055767307) has anyone else noticed more in-fill tests starting?

Could this be a pre-cursor to a full (soft) DTT launch - Or am I just being overly optomistic :)

This is just the ongoing rollout of the relay transmitters with the focus on the east and south-east it appears - with Clermont Carn, Three Rock, Kippure, Greystones, Mt Leinster and Dungarvan rolled out and now Suir Valley and Waterford now transmitting.

RTE tendered for the upgrade of 13 relay sites last Feb. This upgrade now appears to be underway.

The 13 sites listed in the tender were
    • Arklow, Co. Wicklow
    • Suir Valley, , Co Kilkenny
    • Forth Mountain, Co. Wexford
    • Gallows Hill, Co. Waterford
    • Drogheda (Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital), Co. Louth
    • Tonabrocky, Co. Galway
    • Tipperary, Co. Tipperary
    • Killarney, Co. Kerry
    • Navan, Co. Meath
    • Skerries, Co Dublin
    • Loughrea, Co. Galway
    • Árainn Mhór, Co. Donegal
    • Letterkenny, Co. Donegal

I'm giving this a bump. I'm keeping a close eye on what I hear in my area, as the new DTT relay in Drogheda is assigned the same channels as Divis analogue. And would cause more than a bit of grief to the amps of people who are getting Freeview.

I'm giving this a bump. I'm keeping a close eye on what I hear in my area,

Funny how that list is not quite the same as the Q3 2009 Coverage Plan that RTENL published in 2007 or 2008 prior to the Commercial DTT bids.

    The plan 2 years ago.

Watts and Pop Coverage in %

    Arklow 250 0.3
    Gorey 10 0.2
    Suir Valley 700/2000 0.5
    Wexford 250 0.3 = Forth Mtn
    Waterford 250 0.9 = Gallows Hill
    Kilduff 25000 3.2
    Drogheda 130 0.7
    Galway 250 0.5
    Collins Barracks 80 0.6
    Glanmire 110 0.2
Passage West (Marino Point) 70 0.2
    Crosshaven 500 0.7
    Clonmel 500 0.6
    Fermoy 50 0.2
    Kinsale 30 0.1

    Tipp Q1 2010 and Loughrea Q1 2011 back then
Galway may not have been Tonabrocky but Hynes Building.

Any idea of proposed freqs for Arklow or Gorey in-fills?

They include Analogue. Can you paste them all in Cush.

Here is the old Cork Radio list of Analogue Channels from Geocities ( also attached) .

These can be subtracted from the total RRC-06 allocations to get the Digital Mux frequencies. Use the attachment which is clearer.

    E.R.P. = 'Effective Radiated Power'
The letters 'H' and 'V' under 'Pol' correspond to Aerial Polarisation (H=Horizontal/V=Vertical). In the case of sites which use a mixture of VHF Band 3 and UHF, two polarisations are listed as follows: VHF Band 3 polarisation/UHF polarisation

In addition to these main transmitters nearly 100 lower powered relay sites exist. These are listed below. It should be noted that the majority of relays do not radiate omnidirectionaly. Furthermore a very small number of relays operate with Vertical polarisation in certain directions, and Horizontal polarisation in others (HV)

    RTE TV RELAYS

Note sites prefixed by '**' are planned (not yet on air?).
Relays with TV3 channels assigned prefixed by '*' (almost all) are not equipped for TV3 yet as of April 2003. There has been no announced timescale (that I know of) for the introduction of TV3 from these relays. It is likely that many (most?) relays will never broadcast TV3 using analogue. Affected viewers, who cannot receive TV3 from any other transmitter can only receive TV3 if they subscribe to cable/MMDS/Sky Digital. Unfortunately TV3 (as well as RTE1/NET2/TG4) is not available Free To Air/View on satellite,
Since early 1998 most relay sites which had re-transmitted RTE1/Net2 at VHF have been converted to UHF for RTE1/Net2, the VHF services being decommissioned after a few months of parallel transmission. Locality (site) COUNTY RTE1 N2 TV3 TG4 Pol. Max ERP

I shall post this link for posterity as it is the definitive current list from RTÉ.

    http://www.rtenl.ie/downloads/television-frequencies.pdf

Aye, if analogue was ever to be used on the Drogheda relay, I'm pretty sure it would have been on 22, 25 and 32. And at least that allocation would have made some sense.

I'll try to get a DTT TV up with me to Arannmore over the Christmas, I doubt anyone up there is looking out for the tests though!

I'm giving this a bump. I'm keeping a close eye on what I hear in my area, as the new DTT relay in Drogheda is assigned the same channels as Divis analogue. And would cause more than a bit of grief to the amps of people who are getting Freeview.

What the frequency are you talking for the new DTT?
Don't forget that Divis will switch off all analouge frequency in 2012 and they also will change the DTT frequency all below 30
    at the moment DTT are 23, 26, 29, 33, 34 & 48, that will change to 21, 23, 26, 27, 29 and the new HD on 24

Shame they wouldn't equip the Castlebar relay for DTT now. Analogue wise it's pretty powerful (9Kw). Would bring DTT to a large part of County Mayo. Not due for an upgrade until towards the end of 2010 I think.

    Gorey 54, 55, 58, 59, 61, 62, 64, 65

any idea of the location of the arklow mast? would it be the old one on the hill in the north of town or a new one?
