I am looking for someone who could fix my sat-tv.
Sounds easy, check the yellow pages and such like.

But thing is I've got a dish and box for German TV (which I don't want) and some other free channels, that ist BBC and such like. Got it from a friend who moved back to Germany.

I called someone who advertised as a sat-expert, but turned out to be someone who can only do Sky.

People keep telling me, it's easy just fix the dish up the roof and get someone with, ehm, something to fix the right position. Or whatever. But with the dish came a bag full of thingies like screws and brackets and whatnot. I don't know what is what.

I checked the yellow pages but there is no-one in my vicinity (East Clare) who might be able to do so. Or if they can they live some place far away and would probably charge me an arm and a leg. And maybe don't even know how to fix the damn thing. They are probably all specialised on Sky.

Anyone out there who knows someone? I'm not looking for a freebie, I pay for it of course, if it's not a fortune.

Give it a bash yourself, most sat installers only want to do Sky, if you deviate from that you'll have endless trouble finding someone, have to wait forever and pay a hundred yoyos plus for a bang up job, so give it a shot.

Thanks, but that's exactly the trouble: I'm not capable with that sort of thing to do myself. I'm not even able to fix the dish on the wall.
My last resort as an excuse: I'm a woman ... :o And a luddite, sort of ...

I really want someone who does the fitting and fixing, neither have time nor patience to do it myself.

    Check out this crowd http://www.hoteltvsystems.ie/

Dont let the name put you off, they do all sorts of installations. No harm in giving them a ring.

He does both Sky and Free to Air.
His ad in Clare Champion used to quote something like €200 once off charge including equipment, installation and setting up of Free to Air. You have the box and dish already so just ask him to install it for you. You will have BBC's, ITV's, C4, C5, one Brazilian channel and many News, Music, Asian, Nigerian, Religious, Shopping channels etc.
Your equipment was for German TV, but I think you can use it for what you want if you just point it at the right satellite.

I install satelites as a little side venture,I'm assuming you are talking about freesat tv or sat for free, basicly same service just under a different name. You'r sat dish needs to be assembled and the LNB must be facing
Astra2 Eurobird. After that it;s only a matter of programming you'r receiver box,I dont know if i'm allowed post my phone number on the boards here
but if you pmail me i will get back to you .East clare is not a long distance for me.:)

My Sky TV is acting the maggot at the moment. Got the new card in the post, stuck it in the machine but it's still telling me my contract is out of date on the screen the whole time. Have to hit the 'back' button every 5 minutes.

Keith Perry in Crusheen (number in Golden Pages under Satellite Installers) has done a few jobs for me in the past and I can recommend.

is it possible to get a package from one of these guys which would work out cheaper than sky. I only watch sport but have to take a package from sky for 56 per month. Setanta is another 17 and I dont know how much espn will be. Is there a dish you could get to receive any of these channels for a fixed fee?

Sorry to say but the answer is no.
All sport channels go through either NTL or SKY ,One option that might
be of intrest to you especially if you have broadband is to look for these sporting events online.I know of some people who watch all premier and european football online.Try the sports thread for a link or maybe a football fan club could help you in you'r search.
