So, I'm after getting paid again this week. Thats all fine ya might say, BUT, I got paid last week and im on a bi-weekly pay cycle.
We're moving to a weekly pay cycle next week so they obviously got confused and paid me again. They also paid the rest of the contractors here so its not just me.

So, what should I do. Theres no question of me giving it back, purely coz they put me through lots of crap with missing pay cycles completely, leaving me totally broke and having to borrow, leaving me in debt. They'll also probably just take it out of my wages next week, but if they forget, somehow, that leaves me with 2 weeks worth of wages to blow before the missus finds out i have it.

SO ,what should I do? Drink it? Eat it? Hide it? Taunt the homeless? Blow it on hookers? Charity(pfft)? Computer games? Hire 8 year old vietnamese boys to be my slaves?

I reckon its my money anyway so I shall be doing with it as i see fit.

Oh ye, I suppose I could buy xmas presents out of it, but i'd rather buy xmas peasants, to act as footrests while im watchin telly tbh...

I say give it to an 8 year old vietnamese hooker boy charity who taunt the homeless with computer games

Sure you could go out live it up with all the lady boys, bathe in jelly and whipped cream , but eventually it will catch up on you....

granted a bath of jelly and whipped cream is tempting I'll give you that ....choose wisely.

On a serious note - its a sackable offence , and its stealing .

I prefer to think of it as encouraged borrowing :pac:

Yeah don't spend it for a while....they might notice and take it out of another weeks wages.
It happened to me recently, a new girl paid me twice for the same week for some reason. Then they realised a week or two later when the guy who normally does the wages came back from holidays, so it had to be deducted from my next weeks wages.

No it's not. He can just say that he doesn't regularly check his account balance and doesn't read his payslip.

    It's their mistake, not his.

For all he knows they might have randomly decided to reward him for all his hard work with a bonus.

It'd only be a sackable offence if he refused to give it back when asked

Listen to the song sex & drugs & rock & roll by Ian Dury over and over again and see if you get any inspiration from it.

Under Irish law if you are paid in error it is the employers fault because they are legal obliged via both Tax and Employment Law to pay you correctly.

So you do not have to give back a single cent of it, plus if they try and take it back without your authentication or penalise you in anyway {pay rise, promotion, contract review} you can take then to the labour count and have a 99.99999% automatic change of winning big.

Mm well whatever about the technicalities of it , you'd be a fool to think you would be held as a "valuable asset to your organisation" . .
These are no times to be ****ing around.... plus while you spend the next three four months trying to find a decent job you might be hard pressed to explain what prompted you to leave the last employment you held... its not worth holding on to , personally Id tap someone on the shoulder laugh it off and get the brownie points , it could make all teh difference when the axe man comes a knockin.

finalyy a chance for someone to explain the lack of payback: "The money was only resting in my account before it was moved on"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭4Xcut

The technicalaties of whether you can keep it are quite complex. It depends on several circumstances. I remember reading the actual laws a while ago but can't remember them.

Keep it but don't spend it for a while. You never know when it might turn up. Oh and by the way, it's quite difficult if you were passed over for promotion because you kept this money if it happens. You may be passed over for other legitimate reasons or this one but claimed genuine reasons.
