After the OP's edit it makes sense. Beforehand I was confuxed about it.

Thanks for that handy link though. Google, huh?
Might come in useful some day even if it is spelled wrong.

Feck the DOS attacks...nuke their server farm...it's the only way to be sure. :pac:

Thread title fail. We all know it should be "Twitter gets Twatted"

At any rate, this can only be a good thing. I knew there was a valid use for Denial of Service attacks.

Think of all the little tweets that were never born because of this. You people are sick

So what does this mean in non-nerd terms?

    Whats going on? :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,469 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

So basically there's loads of people out there struggling to tell the world they just took a dump and are now going for a ham sandwich?

or have I got it wrong

Well... I read up on it on that Goggle website (which, as it turns out isn't just a swimming supply site) and I believe it goes something like this:

A DOS attack is when someone keeps attacking the Disk Operating System of a computing device. So in this case some man named Twitter has had his computer DOSed which would be rather annoying if you were him. Although having said that, Twitter is a pretty silly nickname so he's probably used to bullying at this stage.

Simple solution I suppose would be to stop whoever is messing with his computing device from getting into his house. I would suggest locking the door and maybe putting a security word lock mechanism on his computing device.

In non-nerd terms - Twitter is fucked!

I seen an interesting piece on Newsnight last night

apparently during the Iran protests a few months ago, Twitter was due to be taken offline for maintainance but the US State Dept demanded that they postponed it until the protests were over

and it's not just a theory either, Twitter's CEO is the one that said it during the interview

    wtf!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

    I'm confused.

I thought a DOS attack is a concerted effort to flood servers with a huge level of superfluous crud?

Isn't that just an average day of operation for Twitter?

Wasn't it because people were using Twitter as a way to get info about the elections out of Iran. Possibly it wasn't blocked or something?

Posts on boards are on the rise as twitter continues to wobble after it's attack....
