Like the title says... I'm new to running and having spent the last 4 months gearing up for the Great Limerick Run - I have damaged my ankle/peroneal tendon and ye olde RICE isn't working.

I've admitted to myself that I won't make Sunday but I want to get back on the roads - so anyone here who's used someone specifically for foot/ankle related injury - would be a great step in the right direction if you'll pardon the pun!

Try Frank Sheehan in Corbally (061 349222), he is a physio who specialises in foot troubles. My daughter is being treated by him for foot problems and he is excellent.

I damaged my peroneal tendon and also snapped a lateral ligament in my ankle a few months ago. I attended a physio and after 5 visits the injury did not improve. I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon and it was operated upon. Due to the delay in seeing the surgeon I developed a nasty case of tendonitis on the peroneal tendon and the tendon was also badly shredded which was repaired as part of the procedure.

My advice based on my own experience, do waste any time, get a referral to a good orthopedic surgeon particularly if you can feel any movement of the tendon in your ankle. I hope this helps.
