Best guitar songs to play at a party

anyone got any good guitar songs to play at a house party? ones that would get everyone involved singing.

i'm trying to think of a few but am struggling

obviously oasis wonderwall is a classic.

then i though florence and the machine - youve got the love.

any other suggestions?

would appreciate all suggestions

The Boys Are Back In Town by Thin Lizzy, simple to play which is a good thing when you are drunk, and everyone loves screaming out the chorus.

Maybe N17 by the Saw Doctors, I guess depending on the crowd.

Harsh but fair.

"Wish you were here" always gets them going for me, after that they putty in your hands, Pinball Wizard works too, for one verse anyway then the words get thin on the ground.

Bootsy strikes me as the definition of the affected Dublin scenster that you see with the Nike Hi-Tops and the skinny jeans and the affected pout, who is soooo achingly cool. Having this guy at your party is akin to finding a lump on your balls.

I don't know what the rules are regarding me posting a link to the song (because it's not on youtube), but if you Google it, it's the very first link that comes up in the search....

You could flute around with chords in the vicinity of those and maybe you'd strike it lucky. Some of the better lads on here if they heard it would be able to tell you for definite.

There is a middle eight in there as well. Am D I think.

Heard it a few weeks ago in a pub and I think the guy dropped the tuning to D (I'm a beginner Guitar player so I only vaguely understand that :P)

All the same its a great song to play at a party!

Those chords would be normal tuning.

Look I could be wrong but I know for a fact that song is a doddle to play save for maybe one or two bits.

I'd also say it was open D tuning as opposed Drop D the lad tuned to. I could be wrong I am no guitar guru but it is a folk song and open D tuning is more appropriate to folk songs.

Drop d tends to be the preserve of metal bands.

But why should I have to make a new thread when its a post already in relation to this topic? The song I'm looking for is one I want to play at a party. Plus it's a song that I'd recommend to the OP for playing at a party. And what harm if I get a little help in finding the chords for it when I cant find them myself?

these are great songs that everyone loves but most don't know the lyrics to all of the songs. they're not mindless easy sing alongs like wonderwall or david gray:D. After the first verse you'll often be on your own so you better know the lyrics. Easy as piss too all of them, John Martyn aside.

People at parties want to sing along, not see you show off. If I'm ever playing at a party, I have my fun by messing around with the chord voicings. People who sit down and try to impress with their instrument annoy me no end. I was at a party once where a guy got the host's guitar out and played Canon Rock :rolleyes:

I insert Damien Rice - The Professor into a session.

Played it after a wedding recently and it went down really well.
It's a little rude and only realised the parents of the bride were sitting beside me after, they took it in good spirits though
