In fairness to him we probabaly dont need many signings to compete next year, just hang on to our current star players and make a couple of excellent signings.

Well it certainly spinned the Podolski story as Wenger said nothing is done.

Not sure it does say anything about the not spending bit though - Wenger said he'll bring top quality players if they're available but wont be adding 'quantity' as Diaby ans Wilshere will be like new signings in the interview.

the sun seem to have went with 'not spending big' to mean that he won't be buying a lot of players, so not spending much

but they mention the quality bit + it in the video and quality will cost money

Still baffles me that after all this time, he still thinks Diaby is capable of going a sustained period of time without getting injured. Have they suddenly discovered a miracle cure?

I see your point but raise you RVP

Hmmm, he says quantity wise we won't do much. I assume that means roughly the same amount of players, so if we sell four players, we'll replace them but won't be looking to get extra players. We have some dead weight that we can get rid of without affecting the quality of the team. Replacing them with better players would be a great start.

As for Diaby, Rosicky and van Persie both suddenly found a way to stay fit for long periods (touch wood), it's not impossible that Wenger reckons Diaby can do it too.

Here's the full interview. Sounds like Wenger is saying that the players out on loan will come back and be good enough, whether he believes that or not. There's also a nice bit on Muamba too

£25m for van Persie??? **** off Madrid!!!

RE shipping out dead wood, if you'd have asked me to define the players that are dead wood six months ago, I would have included Rosicky in that and he's been a major reason for our recent run.

Why are our players so undervalued in the transfer market?

Ive been thinking the same myself, maybe its because we have a history of being a soft touch when it comes to negotiating and letting players go on the cheap clubs tend to bully us almost?? Now I know we got 25 million for Nasri, but there also Fabregas, Henry etc who went way to cheaply.

Remember that he only has a year left on his contract. In a year's time he can go for free, so I suppose they're banking on him wanting to leave. Come on RVP sign a new contract at the Emirates

Dunno if anyone has posted about this already but Aneke went and joined preston on loan on the last day of the Loan window.

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/reserves-news/aneke-joins-preston-until-end-of-the-season

Lets hope he gets a good bit of first team football under his belt as he's apparently been immense in the reserves this season :D It's nice to see all the young fringe players going out on loan and picking up valuable first team football

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,756 ✭✭✭emergingstar

The club won't sell RVP if he won't sign leave him run down his contract and rightly so
He will be taking all the gamble by not signing

Whatever they have to do they must be decisive. Make a decision and stick to it. The mess the team was in at the beginning of last season was all down to indecision with the on/off transfers of Fab and Nasri.

I'll state the obvious here by saying that if we don't get to the Champions League, he will want to leave and I would understand that...

We'll be in the champions league, 100% confident of that now. 3rd would be massive as there'd be no fannying about with players waiting to see if we get through the qualifiers or not!

Aye, after the last 2 games, confidence has really shot up!

I'm quite pessimistic though and am weary about coming 4th and Chelsea winning the Champions League

Oh well, it's looking good and today will really tell more!

If we finish 4th it'll be because Chelsea finish 3rd. We won't miss out on Champions League if they win it, which they won't.

Great to see you're so sure

Hopefully though! 3rd is obviously ideal. Let's start with a win today against a very weakened Villa side!

I wouldn't be so sure, they said they'd let Nasri's cntract run down rather than sell him too. Having said that, I don't think RVP really wants to leave which is the most important thing.

I'm still not massively confident of getting into the CL, 2 more wins in the next 2 matches and I'll feel a lot more confident.

As for Rosicky being deadwood 6 months ago, pretty sure I said it around then that he needed a run in the team and more or less in position. Hopefully he keeps it going after getting his contract. Looking at him against Milan and Newcastle he looks like he's here to do his best again.

He looks happy being captain of the club and he seems like a settled man in his social life so if we get the champions league position and inject the team with a boost of players over the summer I say he'll stay.

I do think keeping him will be a big thing for other players thinking of coming to the club. Keep RVP it show's we are serious and not the new feeder club for the likes of city and barca. The board need to be resilient over the summer so that the best player at our club stays, which will encourage the best players at other clubs to come and play with him as he is such quality

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Thing with Nasri is he wanted to leave, and we got a huge offer. It's have been stupid not to accept. The only thing they did wrong was leave it so late. Had he left at the very start of the window, we'd have had enough time to find a suitable replacement, or at least look for one. Losing him and Fabregas so close together left us in a bit of a hole.

Unless we get a bid of £50m for van Persie, I can't see him going anywhere. Assuming he stays, I also think he'll sign a new contract before Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,477 ✭✭✭✭cson

Nasri gets a harsh deal from the fans here I think. The reason he left is the clubs fault; similar parallels to the Ashley Cole saga, let him run down his contract and he gets oil money waved at him. He was pretty professional about it until the end - I know he maintains he was misquoted about slagging the club off. Lets be honest; we got huge money for a player that had been woefully out of form for about 9 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,872 ✭✭✭djan

Well Spuds and Chelsea draw 0-0 so hopefully we can take advantage of it and rack up some goals in case it gets to goal difference.

Boom. Good result for us at Stamford Bridge today. A win against Villa will go down nicely now. 8 points clear of fifth sounds nice.

Win this evening puts us 8 points clear of 5th with 8 games to go. How many would've thought that a few months ago?

Since the start of this current run of 7 wins I think Van Persie has only scored 7/22 of our goals, not bad going for the rest.

Good day at the office. We win while Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool(to be honest I coukdn't tell you how far behind us they are now) all drop points. Even the loanees did well. Aneke scores on his debut and Miyachi, I hear, was immense for Bolton today.

Jut shows you how we were over-relying on him when playing poorly. Now that the team is playing well it doesn't matter if he isn't scoring in every game. Takes the pressure off him to carry the team single handedly.

It's great to see, it's the most wins in a row since 2007 for us I think as well, which is impressive

    van Persie 33 (26)
    Walcott 9 (6)
    Arteta 5 (5)
    Vermaelen 5 (5)
    Gervinho 4 (4)
    Oxlade-Chamberlaine 4 (2)
    Benayoun 3 (1)
    Ramsey 3 (2)
    Henry 3 (2)
    Gibbs 2 (1)
    Arshavin 2 (1)
    Koscielny 2 (1)
    Rosicky 2 (1)
    Santos 2 (1)
    Chamakh 1 (1)
    Park 1 (0)
    Sagna 1 (1)
    Song 1 (1)

    (league goals in brackets)

First league goal of the season for Gibbs :D
RvP still miles off in the league but good to see a bit of a pack forming behind Walcott to challenge for #2.

That's the best I've seen Arsenal play in a long time. Granted, Villa were useless but it was the first time this season that Arsenal have seemed their old ruthless and swaggering selves

This exactly sums up my feelings. Delighted with the loanees and of course the results.

Yennaris played 60 minutes as did Afobe.
Aneke, Myaichi and Bendtner were all good from what I gathered.

A great weeks rest until we play QPR, great! :)

Won every Saturday 3pm game as well this season :D

I was listening to talksport or radio5 one of them English stations anyway
    They were raving about ryo

Ryo is a great player. Next season we have these at the wing:

    Gervinho, Walcott, Ox, Ryo, Arshavin...

Arshavin will surely go though. But even so, the other 4 are just...wow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,477 ✭✭✭✭cson

    They aren't.

Walcott and Gervinho are very very average by and large. Ryo and Chamberlain are still only good prospects at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

Walcott and Gerv are hot n' cold. Hopefully Gervinho will do like Koscielny and have a super second season.

Good performance today, brilliant goals. Very poor Villa side.

Still think though the team needs to have 3-4 new signings if they want to challenge for a League title. And also about 6-7 players to leave.

Good run but I still would be wary about the summer transfer window. Hopefully we seal 3rd this year will be a major achievement.

City drop points too. It will be interesting to see if we can knock a few points off that gap between us between now and the end of May.
