Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Owing to the explanations of fenian only being a term used for IRA supporter and not a catholic in general..can someone explain the refs connections on Saturday to Irish republicanism for me please?

BTW "Go home ya huns" is no more/less than singing "cheerio cheerio" or "show them the way to go home". Some ***** here clutching at straws to either be offended/justify their bigotry.

And as a sidenote Ive got 4 friends I can think of who have brothers/sistsers who support rangers and they openly say "my dad/mum/sister/brother" is a hun. please explain..?

    You know what's scary?

You actually seem to believe what you are saying. This ****ed up world of Rangers and Celtic actually seems clear in your heads, black and white - they're bad, we're good.

If we use fenian, it's fine. If they use fenian, it's not.
If they call a ref fenian, then it's religious bigotry. However if we call Walter Smith "Orange Bastard" it has nothing to do with religion whatsoever.

Rangers fans find the term "hun" offensive - ach sure what do they no eh? They're just fascists.

    I'm out.
I'll be back when someone attempts to talk football again.

I actually agree with Eirebear here, Fenian is not in any way shape or form a sectarian term and anyone who takes offence to the use of the word is just looking for something to take offence to and clearly does'nt actually know what a 'fenian' is.

That said the same of course applys to the term 'hun'.

Now can we just leave this thread to actual football talk and cut out all this tit for tat sh*te, just ignore TheKeith and it becomes alot easier, have a read of some of he's views in the political forum and you wioll get an idea of what you are dealing with here

    easy:

They're either idiots or you're full of it.

The Paul McGowan story which was printed today shows how retarded it is to get offended by 'fenian', or even 'provo' ;)

In the very same way it is retarded to get offended by the term 'hun' as Eirebear would say cake and eat it ;)

Let them sing 'up to our knees in fenian blood' all they want. I'd rather we can all sing what we want

Thats called context though lubo, change fenian there for any term relating to Celtic and its still offensive, thw word fenian in itself is in no shape of form offensive

Got to laugh at asking where that leaves Celtic fans, I think you may be missing the point of football chants now.

    Whats getting dragged out next?
The Red and Black socks story? Maybe The Bouncy one?
What about the "Why is Dublin mentioned in Follow Follow?" debate?

Drivel is pretty much bang on.

Oh ffs, you really are hurting and lashing out all around you. WATP has sinister connotations to a minority of uneducated morons in your support. i dont find it offensive, more laughable really. As for the last part, of ****ing course not. Not sure about the bouncy though

Maybe lashing out, and probably at the wrong target to be fair - but i don't particularly take too well to being labelled a fascist.

As for the rest - i've read them all at one point or another on this very forum.

I dunno, it fits into the song.
But i'm sure it's for bigoted/racist/sectarian reasons of course.

You havent read them from me and tbh i was having a go at another poster, not you particularly or rangers fans in general but i do think that particular chant can be interpreted wrongly by some idiots, same as some of our more political slogans can be among the idiots in our support

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

Easy, because it's one of the last places you'd expect to find Rangers fans following their team.
    But they do ;)

No, it's pretty clear, you think it's some sort of supremacist slogan which caused some Rangers fans to see themselves superior to Celtic fans.

Shocking that, football fans who see themselves as better than their rivals.

Well when following/reading a number of threads and popping back and forth it would be easier for all if you used the function. It really isn't that difficult and it's courteous to other users. Everyone else does it, would it kill you to show some consideration for fellow users?

Wasn't it closer to £188,000 but we won't split hairs eh :) At least he never sold off The Loving Cup, or The Bike

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

Nah, they're worth more than that:
Fresh information in our possession now shows how Whyte struck a deal worth more than £230,000 with a consortium called Red and White to sell off the 16 shares and cash in on a historic link between the clubs dating back to 1910.

It's not the money, it's the fact he's willing to sell a part of the club's history for personal means.

What's next, some trophies, the bike we got from St Etienne for scrap metal ?

Ah now it might not have been for personal means at all. The figure matches closely the money that went to Banstead Athletic, perhaps all he is doing is replacing an old link with a team on the decline for a new, exciting link with a team on the up!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭Pompey Magnus

Being serious though the fact that he did that suggests to me that he may consider liquidation as becoming increasingly likely and so decided to act first and thus have a say in where the money for the assets go to.

I think you are right here Pompey its obvious that Rangers feel they should establish a closer link with a team more at their own level, Kyle Bartley will be replaced by some blocklayer from Banstead, exciting times ahead in Govan :D

    The St Etienne bike :D

It's a part of the club's history, gifted by St Etienne in 1957.
St Etienne was the bicycle capital of France back then, makes perfect sense.

Fairly scummy thing for Whyte to do. Doesnt say much about the character of that Red and White consortium either

On football matters does anybody think 5/1 inverness on sunday is a good bet? Its a tough enough place to visit and rangers are (allegedly) travelling up and down to save on hotels fees (not sure on how much truth in this). Either way 5-1 seems generous. Thoughts?

Worth a flutter but I'd be cautious, its hard to know which Rangers will turn up. Where are you getting 5/1? LB & BF are only giving 4/1 :D

The Scottish Premier League is investigating sectarian chanting by Rangers fans during Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

It wont matter because any punishment will be written off in the liquidation :pac:

I assume they'll arrest Paul McGowan too then, for having the audacity of using the term 'Fenian' in a song ? :pac:
