Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

guess i will be heading to lidl tomorrow

  • Registered Users Posts: 52 ✭✭Stevo93

    are they rechargable???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭gerrowadat

Yep, ditto, I have ne of these.

Be aware that the 'headset' that comes with it is designed for helmet, i.e. it's just two earpieces with sticky pads on the back for putting inside a bike helmet. You'l need to get a proper headset (it takes motorola talkabout stuff).

What I don't get is why people don't get things like this:

    http://www.csonline.net/crawford/2008_Motorola/Motorola_t9650.htm

Don't get me wrong I'm not very wise I got a set of Binatones for 70, but I never realised I could get something worth my while for the same price

And the headsets that come one the Lidl ones just like a ptt button and two speakers or earphones?

I have a quick question as I don't really know much about walkie talkies. I haven't joined a team yet but I hope to soon enough.

Say I buy the walkie talkie from LIDL or the one DisasterIRL listed and then I join a team. If they use a different walkie talkie will I still be able to use the one I bought before or will I have to go out and buy the walkie talkie that is the same as the rest of my team?

I got a set of them from lidl about a year ago, pretty good talkies, but the head set speakers aint great, audio is pretty low.. so it gets hard to hear when you clackin away with your aeg, I tried a couple of differant headsets with them, (not the bowman type) that vtec posted. but found the PTT didnt work on em... ended up getting the Corbra ones from Tesco for 39 euro, that and a throat mic which cost me 10 bills on ebay, worked out a better deal :-)

May review this now that I can get a headset that works :-) - Thanks to Vtec-who looks pretty scary with one on :-) if not a bit like one of the SAS dudes from COD4 Modern Warfare

but to anwser Dreadlocks Question, never had a problem with using one with any other brand or type once I had the same channel :-)

    looks interesting thanks.

maybe a mod from Bargin Alerts can put a redirect from there to here.

I think I might go with what you did and try and grab the one in Tesco as the one in LIDL isn't getting the best reviews. Could you tell me the make/brand of walkie talkie you got in Tesco?

No bother, I got them in the Greystones Branch, Cobra is the Brand,Microtalk is the model, comes with a single 1-pin chrager with a split on the cable, so that you can charge both at the same time from the same charger, there were to types on sale, one with-and one without PMR, normally over where they flog phones... the throat mic I got on EBAY, 3 days shipping time from the states.. very good item. I will post a link to the exact item on ebay in this thread as soon as I find em again :-)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

yeah once its designed for the motorola talkabouts it will, you can get them on ebay for half nothing, i use the cavalvy headset myself., :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭samhail

I never bought one of those throat mics when i was on the door. mate got one after i finished up and he said they were useless - anyone have any good experiences with them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭DICEMAN7

are you trying to say i have a fat neck ..............lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭Fyr.Fytr

The heavier duty looking ones work better then the cheap ones, also have them snugly close to you adams apple, ive one i use at concerts, work a treat, small nexk though so some velcro pads keep it snug, works perfectly

Also due to using 3 or 4 different types of radios i got one with mini din connectors so its interchangeable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

If you want a throat mic, you're looking at spending at least 40-50euro, the cheap ones just dont work and you will end up throwing them in the bin.

    No, I'm saying I have :-)

Any of the cheap throat mics I got off ebay appear to have been designed for tiny pencilnecked moon people. The is the only one I've found that fits (that said, I have a 15" collar). If you're going to be wearing it for the day, you need comfort.

Just looking at the awkward position of that aerial on the radio, there are surely equally good if not better yokes available on ebay yes?

    Compatible with headsets etc.

This and boots are my next buy.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

i actually find the aerial to be better placed than most similar radios like the double pack that lidl sold a while back, it doesnt get caught on anything like the normal type aerials.,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,758 ✭✭✭Stercus Accidit

It just makes it a bit tall for my radio pouch is all.

Had a look at these earlier, not really sold on the accessories, the headset is a bit funny, but looks like it suits helmets down to the ground.
The mic and ear pieces attach to the inside of a helmet, bar me making one out of fibreglass(great stuff) I'll get a regular style set.

I found them very handy for installing into a full face mask, its really comfy, can hear it in bot ears and the PTT button can easily be mounted to anything., :)

I have a set of Binatone Terrain 550's very similar to the lidl and aldi walkie talkies

I needed a headset for them before tomorrow and I ended up getting a set for 50, just earphone and PTT button, one pin small, fits talkabouts, but for some reason doesn't work with them

i got two set of these radios from lidle, fit nicly into an m88 or the israeli type helmets and the ptt button looks gucci on the steyr, bit of black tape to tidy up the wires and your sorted.

These Lidl radios are PMR frequencies right, are sub-channels available on them, thanks E.
I presume sub channels are the existing 8 PMR split down further by a few kHz seperation ?
    i.e:
    446.00625 MHz
    446.01875 MHz
    446.03125 MHz
    446.04375 Mhz
    446.05625 Mhz
    446.06875 Mhz
    446.08125 Mhz
    446.09375 Mhz

Yea its ccts tones (think its ccts, has them letters not sure of the order lol) handset transitmits then and another handset with those ccts programmed in picks it up.

Most pmr sets come with them cause otherwise ever man and his dog can listen to you

Yes you can get the ccts on the lidl radios tonky

Can anyone recommend where I would get a very small in ear with boom type mic with ptt and vox that I could use just for cycling with these specific radios?

I want to clip the radio onto a rucksack and be able to chat with whoever is cycling around with me.

Something like this maybe but a smaller mic?

Those headsets that were linked from RSOV are also available here.

    http://www.andysairsoft.co.uk/acatalog/Communication.html

They work out roughly the same price. Without the customs and possibly the long shipping time.

thats actually a site linked to ebaybanned and i believe when you order from them, they'll send it from hong kong all the same.,

Are you sure? I thought both this UK site and the Italian one have their own warehouse. So they are shipping from those countries.

If they are just shipping stuff from Hong Kong that seems a little pointless to me. What is the benefit of their affiliation. It cant just be customer support, because from what I hear Ebaybanned are pretty good in that respect.

Alright I may be wrong about that. All I have to go by are the comments left on the few items I was buying.

Plenty of variance based on the place you get it delivered to.

Personally I've found www.tacticalgeardepot.com to be a little better (although they're both pretty bad).

yeah communication is rare and primative, but ive always found ebaybanned stuff to be good quality and although some packages can take a while to finally arrive, ive never been left short.,
RSOV though, their far better in both communication and service.,
