Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Meet Billy Redden. It’s 1971, he’s in his room, and all is (relatively) normal. That is until he’s visited by versions of himself, each from a separate time in his (apparently highly eventful) life. They’re all Billy, they’re all very different people, and they’re all too busy squabbling over how his life should turn out, to care if he should even have a say in it.

Playwright Alan Flanagan takes us on a journey as one boy discovers that in the face of medical marvels, back-stabbing soul mates, moonlighting drag queens, and brow furrowing time travel, being gay in 1971 is the least of his worries.

Boards.ie very own drama group, No Drama Theatre, are bringing our comedy improvisation show, Improvlova, to Kilkenny for the Fringe Festival in the Springhill Court Hotel on Friday June 4th. Tickets only a tenner. Choke Comedy Improv from Limerick will be performing on the Saturday and Sunday night and there will improv workshops running during the day.

Thought you might be interested. A group of university students around Dublin have devised a new play called "Oh...Babe!", being performed at 3pm on 5th & 6th of July at The Bernard Shaw pub, free entry, suitable 12+. Very cool, sexy, rock play based on modern rock music.

Producer sought for upcoming theatre production company based in Dublin.

The job itself will entail of such work as;

Publicity/Promotion of shows.
Arranging auditions/rehearsals for actors.
Negotiations with theatres/theatre management.
Hiring and firing of staff (make-up/costumes/production/design/lighting managers).
Fundraising.

If any of the above appeals to you, and you feel like this may be an area of interest and benefit, don't hesitate in contacting us.
You don't have to have had any experience/education in the world of theatre (though it would be a plus), but rather be willing and ready to come and work (it's really alot of fun!!!).

As we are only a small company (with ALOT of ambition!), we will not be able to offer any pay for your services (in the short term!), but this is an area of the entertainment industry that is impossible to get experience without experience, and with us you'll gain plenty.

We would ask only ages 18+ apply, and that potential candidates send us their CV or relevant experience to date.

Hi Folks. Not sure if this is quite the right place, but figured I'd give it a go and can edit/remove the post later if there are objections to it.

Basically, we're having a fundraiser for our show which will be part of the Absolut fringe festival tonight, in Toners Pub, 139 Baggot St. It's free entry, there's live music, live comedy, as well as fun games, cakes & other assorted things made by the cast and crew and a raffle with some cool fun prizes.

Dennis Kelly is a London-based writer for both theatre and television. His work for the stage includes Orphans (Traverse Theatre, Bermingham Repertory Theatre, Soho Theatre, winner of the Fringe First & Herald Angel Awards 2009); The Gods Weep (Hampstead, London); DNA (National Theatre); Taking Care of Baby (Birmingham Rep/Hampstead Theatre); Love and Money (Manchester Royal Exchange & Young Vic); After The End (Traverse Theatre, Bush Theatre, Leicester Haymarket & UK and international Tour); Osama the Hero (Hampstead Theatre) and Debris (Battersea Arts Centre, Traverse and Latchmere). This competition was established in 1986 and to date over 800 new plays have been submitted and judged, over 150 have been performed and 6 have been published. It is a great way to see new writing performed in Cork and also to get a taste of new actors and directors.

All week the Cork Arts Theatre will be presenting performances of the shortlisted plays from our Playwrights' Awards. This is always an exciting event in the theatre as we will have six premieres of new plays. For the first time ever the playwrights' words will be presented to an audience.

Directed by Laura Daly and produced by Vanessa Hyde and Tess Healy Maguire, Christopher Durang's Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge opens on Wednesday, December 1st, and will run nightly through Saturday, December 11th, at the Cork Arts Theatre. Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge is a playful, skewed look at the Dickens classic Christmas tale where miser Ebenezer Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas. In Durang's version, the quietly suffering sainted Mrs. Bob Cratchit has been given one foundling too many and is determined to drown her sorrows then herself by leaping off the London Bridge.

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge starts out with the familiar tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's visit from a Ghost. From there, things start to go awry. The Ghost's magic is off. Instead of the fateful hourly visits, Scrooge and the Ghost, pop in and out of time and place. They end up haunting the beleaguered Mrs Cratchit who is now convinced they are voices in her head.

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge peers behind the image of the poor-but-happy Cratchit family to reveal that Bob is really a bit of a nitwit and Tiny Tim is too good to be true. The Ghost has a taser to help her tame the wayward Scrooge but he seems to be falling for the newly liberated Mrs. Cratchit. Well meaning help from Clarence the Angel from Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life, television stars and Dutch tourists only complicate matters for the Ghost. And then, there are still all the children ...

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge is part pastiche, part parody and all comedy. It is an antidote for those who feel they too may drown in the syrupy schmaltz of the holiday season.

The cast includes: Antoinette Hilliard, Alma Kickham, Cian Daly, Alan Martin, Tess Healy Maguire, Mark Cosgrave, John Ryan Howard, Judy Donovan, Alex Murphy and a host of some of Cork's finest young talent.

St. John's Gospel Choir

St. Johns Gospel Choir is a multicultural, non-denominational group of singers, set up as a fledgling corps by a member of staff in early 2009 in St. Johns Central College Cork; a college at the heart of the city. Its members are drawn together by a love of gospel sounds and rhythms. Initially, incorporating staff and students from St Johns, it has evolved and expanded to include the wider community, who have become core participants in its development and performances. It has an all-embracing ethos, echoed by its repertoire, which includes Gospel songs and music from all over the world.

The choir is led by choirmaster extraordinaire Yemi Bakare, hailing from Nigeria by way of America and Europe, accompanied by the unique sounds of King David on the electric piano.

The Christmas concert at the Cork Arts Theatre will showcase African gospel music, traditional gospel music, R’n’B gospel, reggae gospel, Christmas songs and many more favourites so be sure to come and enjoy this musical jamboree!

Judy Donovan is cast as the hilarious Irene in A Lady of Letters, one of Alan Bennett's Talking Heads monologues.

In A Lady of Letters, Irene spends her time writing letters to everyone from the local council, undertakers, the crematorium to the Queen herself!
Irene's search for meaning in life leads her to a very unusual but happy ending.

There is a sense that there is not one, but many characters onstage and the Cork Arts Theatre is the perfect setting for this gem from Alan Bennett's pen!

Directed by June McCarthy, this is an Everyman Theatre production that will captivate audiences with the brilliance of its writing which reflects Alan Bennett's marvelously observant view of the British way of life.

Judy's recent stage work includes: Parity of Pretence (Wexford Opera House), The Good Sisters (Cork Opera House), FML (European Tour), An Ideal Husband (Abbey Theatre), The Sunbeam Girls (Cork Opera House), Lovers (Everyman Palace) and The Mai (Cork Arts Theatre).

'The Clearing' - by Helen Edmundson

Presented by Brideview Drama. Directed by Jack Aherne.

Helen Edmundson's 1993 play The Clearing is set in the seventeenth century during the only time in England's history when that country was a republic. The Clearing is about the cruel treatment meted out in Ireland by those representing Oliver Cromwell's government.

The play was very well received as a new play when it was first produced and comparisons were made between it and Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

Interestingly, like The Crucible, the motivation in Edmundson's play is the acquisition of land. The land confiscation in The Clearing is to pay in lieu of wages that are owed to Cromwell's army. The central issue is the dilemma of Robert Preston - should he ensure the economic prosperity of his family by betraying his Irish friends (and ultimately his wife) or should he stick by them and risk banishment to inhospitable and difficult to farm Connaught?

A powerful production by Brideview Drama that should not be missed.

In preparation for competing in the full length amateur drama festival circuit, Bradan Players will be performing "Tom and Viv" by Michael Hastings at the Draiocht in Blanchardstown on Fri 25th and Sat 26th Feb. The play deals with the poet TS Elliot and his strained first marriage to socialite Vivienne Haigh-Wood. The play will also be performed at the Rush, Newtownstewart, Enniskillen, Ballyshannon, Glenamaddy, Shercock and Scarriff drama festivals during March. ‘Flipside’ by Shane Burke is a funny and moving new play from Run Amok Theatre, directed by Andrew Deering. April 4th (preview)- April 9th. 8pm. €15/€12 concession. €10 each for groups of 8 or more. The Pearse Centre, 27 Pearse St.,Dublin 2.

Flipside is a fresh, funny and moving look at four lovers’ entangled and parallel lives from new playwright Shane Burke. A house-swop between friends brings Sicily to Dublin and Dublin to Sicily. Flipside places the audience in the unique position of watching two storylines unfold at the same time.

In Sicily, the sun is blazing and the lemoncella is flowing. Conan and Katie are keen to explore the land of Dionysius and Don Corleone. But soon they will be hanging out with mummies and nosey neighbours, while trying desperately to realise why they ever got together in the first place.

Meanwhile in Dublin, the summer skies are full of rain and Sinéad and Evan realise that the life they left behind is waiting for them. Sinéad’s old fiancé is on the scene, her parents think she’s a traitor and Evan is acting like a second generation yank in search of his roots.

Flipside is a bittersweet, contemporary play which shows that love and war are often inseparable.

The play is produced by Run Amok Theatre, a newly established group of actors, directors and writers with the aim of producing new and original writing. ‘Flipside’ is directed by Andrew Deering, who recently directed Jane Mulcahy’s A Date with Mercy and the cast of four are Erika McGann, Joe Jennings, Irene Byrne, Liam Halley.

Hi all.. just a quick request!
Im organising a charity fashion event in Re-dress from 7-10 pm Friday 1st April, in aid of Our Ladys Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. This takes place in 2 levels, with the upstairs area as a room holding about 30-40 people in which Im holding the 'Evening Soiree'- hoping to reproduce a relaxed 19502 style club atmosphere with round tables,cards, mood lighting and a few performances. Just wondering if ye know of anybody who would be interested in donating 10 minutes or so of their time to perform a burlesque piece- dance, music or comedy. Can the ultimate bender help us figure out what is truly important in life?
Spend an unsavoury sex and alcohol-fuelled weekend in the company of a young man on the skids. Aged 24, he married the girl who, after a late night drunken encounter at a party, had become pregnant. Now with two daughters, he has grown up too fast and is now intent on making up for lost time.

A young Irishman with a drink problem tells of three momentous days in his life when his drab nine-to-five existence is obliterated in an escapist binge which threatens to engulf him.

Rum and Vodka, a concoction said to have the "power to wake the dead," is an enthralling contemporary tale of an Everyman’s sudden fall from grace.

Best known for his work The Weir, McPherson was described by the New York Times as ".. quite possibly the finest playwright of his generation" .

This is a solo performance by Kieron Smith, who after a successful run at Gonzo Theatre, Cavan, is excited to bring the play to Dublin audiences: “it is an honour to work on McPherson’s debut monologue play and to bring it to the International Bar – significant as it is where McPherson’s early work was originally presented”.

The love affair between the playwright, John Millington Synge, and the actress Molly Allgood was secretive, passionate and all too brief, but it left its mark on her for the rest of her life.
This year St. Ann’s Dramatic Society invites you to an afternoon of music and drama. Based on the acclaimed novel Ghost Light by Joseph O’Connor, Changeling tells the story of Molly Allgood, taking you from the theatres of Dublin 1910 to New York in the 1930’s to Post War Britain.
Performed in the historic environs of St. Ann’s Church, Changeling will feature dramatic performances adapted specially from the novel, interspersed with music by Fauré, Duruflé, Franck, Duparc and Richard Strauss and others specially selected and performed by Rachel Talbot (singing), Morgan Crowley (singing), Charles Marshall (organ), and Mary Marshall (harp) .
Performances will take place on Thursday 14th, Friday 15th, Saturday 16th April in St. Ann’s Church, Dawson St. Dublin 2.

Just wanted to let you know about a play that a long established amateur drama group from Finglas are staging on the 16th/17th April...

Oakwood Drama Group are busy putting the final touches to their latest production "The Loves of Cass Maguire" by Brian Friel.

Starring group regulars alongside debutants, Oakwood Drama will take to the stage on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April in St. Canice’s Girls School Hall (Finglas - opposite the Credit Union) at 8pm. Tickets (Adults €10/ Students & OAP’s €8) are available on the door, and includes play programme and interval refreshments. Boards.ie discount also available. The play tells the story of Cass Maguire who returns home to Ireland after fifty years in the US and quickly finds herself an outsider. Her carefree attitudes and breezy language are in marked contrast to the behaviour of her family back in Ireland and they quickly eject her from the family home and send her off to a rest home where Cass regales the others in the home with stories that give some temporary escape from the disappointment of their unfulfilled lives.
