Kilmurry Village: 1st year and 3rd year

Upside: 10 mins to middle of college and the lodge - so quite central. You get to know loads of people and I'd really recommend it for 1st year.

Downside: No washing machine/dryer in house - so have to use village launderette and buy tokens - its a real hassle so just bring washing home to mammy!
Also - the fridge and freezer are ridiculously small for 8 people

Dromroe Village: 2nd year and 4th year

Upside: Fairly quiet. Very close to campus. Village shop on site. Excellent for 4th year as quite a studious feel to it.
Downside: Same goes re: laundrette - particularly annoying when your 4th year and don't have time to go home!

    On campus accomodation generally:
Would recommend it because you'll never have to go without heating or hot water.
The houses and apartments are really comfortable generally.
You will always get deposit back (minus any deductions for damage).
Its easy living as there is no hassle trying to get everyone in house to pay rent/utility bills.
If there are any probs with the house the village managers will usually get it sorted pretty quickly.
People often complain that its expensive to stay on campus. It definitely is difficult having to pay for the years rent in two hefty installments. But the upside is that everything is included - light/heat/refuse. So it can often work out at a similiar cost to off-campus accommodation.
Plus - you can pay a supplement and have broadband internet in your room - Really really useful!

    Howdy,

Moving down to do a Masters in September. There's a few estates not on that map on page 1.

Can you give me a rundown on :

    Woodhaven
    Cois Ghruda
    Arda Na Ghruadan
    Beechwood
    Briarfield.

Am a mature student (25) so I won't be doing any partying ;)

Don't want o live on campus but want to be within reasonable walking distance.

    Cheers,

    Ixus.

Technically I attended UCD this year but I spent a lot of my time in UL crashing at a friend's house in Kilmurry village. I loved UL so much that I'm transferring this year and going to live in Kilmurry so that shows how cool I think Kilmurry is :D Location is perfect. Near main buildings and near the sports centre. Houses are nice enough and atmosphere is great. A bit too great sometimes. Its noisy almost 24/7. The only quiet hours are usally between 4 and 7am so if you're a light sleeper, its not always fun but I'm sure most student accomodation is like that...

Anyone else going to tour the accomodation on Sat (18th) ?

Hi, I'm going to be living in Dromroe come September, and I was just wondering about what I have to bring eg/ quilts or pans etc?? I'd hate to bring all these extra things with me, or not have them when I need them, especially considering the distance from my home to UL. Could someone just give me an overview of what is needed??? I've looked on other threads, and I can't seem to find anything. Thanks.:D

I'm returning from Erasmus very soon, and I want to get off-campus accomodation as soon as I can. Last year, a lot of rooms became available as people went away on co-op in February, but is that the case this year? I've been told that the Polish Invasion has decimated the range of off-campus options for students in Oaklawns, Milford Grange and Elm Park. Is this true?

Can anyone tell me about CappaVilla? That's where I have applied!!! Incoming First Year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 215 ✭✭Nutty

Cappavilla is the newest village on campus think this is its second year open its closest village to the nurses building... which now connects to the main campus via the living bridge making it as close as thomond to the main campus

Does anyone know if fellas and girls can live together in Plassey, or any other campus accomodation?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 onak07

Plassey always mix boys and girls unless you request for an all girls/boys house

No they can't village management have a policy against fellas and girls living together....something about living in sin and fornication and other scary stuff like that.

Thinking of staying down in Limerick for a few weeks apres exams...anywhere recommended in Castletroy? What sort of prices are we talking during the summer? I've heard around €50 p/w.

Do you intend on working for the summer? Why stay for a few weeks and not just all summer (I've personally had a great time staying in Limerick for the summer). Ah rent wise I suppose it depends on your land lord, I got an extremely cheap rate but that was also contingent on me staying in the house at full rent the following year which I did.

Depends on the landlord I guess.

College Court is dirt cheap for the summer.

Depends... You will get as low as €25/€30 per week in Elm Park, which is really good when you consider some of the houses there aren't all that bad.

Probably some place in the city centre. All three are in completely opposite directions. But getting a place for that many people in the city centre won't really be that feasible, tbh. It may be time to cut the strings tying you all together! Best of luck anyway...

    Hey guys :)

Starting in UL in Sept, I'm 25 and did the whole student accommodation thing back in the day, and that's where it shall stay! Looking for advice on off campus accommodation, is the city centre a bit of a trek?

College Court and Milford Grange still have loads of places to stay, and are overall fairly decent places to stay.

The city can be a trek alright, but there are buses every 15 mins [supposedly].

Avoid college court? Is that cos I'm living there? :p
I've been living there 3 years now, and entering my 4th year this Septmeber, its not too bad.
What are you doing back in UL that will have you so up the walls?
Its easy to avoid parties by staying in college, ie the library, main canteen, or the new BBS building for as long as possible.

I was wondering the same thing but im going to Dromroe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,477 ✭✭✭✭cson

Not an issue. I remember for rag week last year we had 4 people sleeping in our living room/kitchen in Kilmurry and another 4 in spread around our rooms. I think the girls had friends sleeping upstairs too. There was probably in or around 20 people in the house one night.

I'd imagine The Villa and Drumroe are the same as Kilmurry.

Hi all Im doing a course in robotics in UL this year as a mature student and me and a friend (professional) have found a nice modern 3 bedroom apartment looks like this (different apt but in the same building same layout ) its much bigger than the pictures look like.

    http://www.daft.ie/searchrental.daft?search=Search+%BB&s[cc_id]=c17&s[a_id][0]=3728&s[mnp]=&s[mxp]=&s[bd_no]=&s[pt_id]=&s[move_in_date]=0&s[lease]=&s[furn]=0&s[search_type]=rental&s[transport]=&s[advanced]=&s[price_per_room]=&s[refreshmap]=1&limit=10&id=535816

but need some one to take the 3rd room
so if any mature student or professional ~25 age wants to move in .would suit some one going to UL with a car like 15mins away by car.and its right beside raheen industrial park limerick (walking distance) .rent ~ 300 a month ,smokers welcome ,Rent Allowance Not a problem ! .got internet .

Private message me for more details if you’re interested.

    ^^ sorry don't know

Unpacked my stuff in the courtyard today, lovely place. Ensuite and a big enough sized room. Loads of space for all my stuff.

And theres a free bus in the morning and late afternoons every 20mins.
Can't wait to move myself in there tomorrow morning.

 That's weird. I moved into Plassey today too and ours was downstairs. Was the only one in my house this morning when I checked in so I wont get to find out who I'm living with until Tuesday. Of course my secondary school had to be awkward and book our debs for a Monday.

The way Plassy (and possibly Kilmurry) are designed is to maximise the space in the Terrace, so every second house has the kitchen/living room upstairs; directly above nextdoor's kitchen/living room.

Well that's just curious and curiouser!

The only thing I didn't like was the smell of stale smoke when I opened the door but that has to be expected. Nothing a good bit o Febreeze won't sort out!
