Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can tie in a hospital bed but getting out to post stuff will be a problem so i'll have to take a backseat and let somebody else organise.

hope you get better soon Yank!
    hope it's not flytying related?

Luckily no! Tying is the only thing keeping me sane right now while i'm cooped up in here. My fly box will be stuffed to the gills if this keeps up.

I can organise this one if no one else is minds?

Can everyone who is willing to tie a saltwater pattern post it by the end of this week so we got an idea of numbers.

I'll copy a pattern I bought in a tackle shop. Not sure of the name but i think its a sprat pattern. Could someone else who normally does tie saltwater patterns recommend the best hooks to tie on (for those of us, myself included, that dont know :o)

We'll aim to have this swap finished by end of March and I believe in April its a sea trout fly we'll tie.

    Thanks :)

I use mostly Mustad 34007. It's a standard salty fly hook and should be easily available. Partridge sea prince and mustad 10827BLN hoodlums are also good. Gamakatsu are some of the best but difficult to find. The only thing that really matters is whether the hook is corrosion resistant or not so look for either stainless steel or tin-plated. I'll tie some polar fibre baitfish since i owe okedoke a few anyway! ;-)

    Ill give this a pop,

Put me down to tie clouster minnows on either mustad S71S SS or C7OS D.

    Thanks.

Put me down for the salty swap too. Don't know what to tie yet, looking for an easyone as i'm only starting out. Any suggestions would be welcome!

    Hope all is well Yank!

    cheers zziplex,
i'll go with some Rays Fly, had a look at the recipe and should be able to manage some of them.

The Gurglers look tricky enough, good luck them Okedoke.

All is really not well Fishboy but have a bunch of docs working on that. Look up a fly called summer blues- if you tie it in red and yellow pollack will go apesh!t for it. Only needs a hook, thread and 2 colours of bucktail and in varying colour combos will work anywhere in the world.

I was waiting until the weekend to post a final list but so far...

    Seafields : Deceiver pattern

Yank in Eire : Polar fiber baitfish

    Okedoke : Gugglers

    Fish Boy : Ray fly

    Zziplex : Cluster minnow

    Jack01986 : Poppers

That will probably be it for this swap but hopefully one or two more might join in.

Oh and get well soon yank :)

So six copies? When should we have them posted by?

As a matter of interest, how early do people here start fly fishing for bass?

It's more like casting practice with the remote chance of a pull from something but it takes less explaining to tell the mrs i'm going fishing!

Yeah, hopefully the interest keeps up so seatrout flies in April maybe. And there's potential for more themes - salmon, dries, nymphs, wets again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭okedoke

I've had a couple of things crop up over the last week so couldn't tie the flies - they'll be in the post Monday though

    Steve

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭okedoke

All done - 5 gurglers (running low on hooks so didn't put in a fly for my own packet). In the post on Monday.

    olivewhitegurgler-1.jpg

    Size 2 hooks
    Grey thread
    Tail: white/olive bucktail and flash
Body: White chenille flash with craft shop foam

Right I think I have received most of the flies so far:

    Okedoke : Gugglers Received

Fish Boy : Ray fly ??

    Zziplex : Cluster minnow Received

    Jack01986 : Poppers Received

I'm kinda embarrassed when I see my flies next to them. :o

They'll be in the post by the end of the week once I get a pic posted of the lot together. :)

Fishboy, if your still taking part can you PM me in next day or two so that we can finish up this swap. Thanks :)
