Nightclubs for over 30's in Dublin

I went to a nightclub last night in Dublin and most of the people there were around 25. I am nearly thirty and didn't feel totally at home there if you know what I mean. I did a Google search and there are some clubs that have over 30's nights. Do any of you have any recommendations on the best over 30's clubs or nights in Dublin? GRMA.

Club Nassau and Break for the Border tend to attract an older crowd. Never been to either myself.

I Rain nightclub is over 30's. It's up at Portobello. Full of dirty pack-hunting cougars!

Normally yep I'm only ever in the downstairs side tho. maybe the teeny boppers do be upstairs

Club Nassau have 80's nights. Are there any 70's nights places around do any of you know? I look forward to going to the 90's nights places when they start!

Joys, Baggot St: open late. Rain, though a mix of the OK and the - well - desperate. Rain is OK for 30-45ish. A handful of real mutton-dressed-as-lamb 50 somethings though.

Worse is the Merchant opposite the Brazen Head (knackerville), Brazen Head is OK.

Rain niteclub in Portobello is always advertised on Q102 radio station as Dublin's "only" over 30s niteclub. I don't know if that means the bouncers actually check for ID to confirm your age. How else can they quantify or enforce it as "over 30s" then

. Or is the blaring of Wham and Rick Astley from the door sufficient deterrent for anyone under 30??

It's the chavs and auld dirt birds that do this instead of the music.

Brazen Head is an uber touristy Irish pub place, avoid. Its used to be good years ago, now you'd be lucky to see a Dub there at all!

Madonna's & Club Nassau in Temple Bar are good spots for our age group, they do attract all types young and old though which is a good thing and they do play 70's as well as 80's music. You won't be out of place in Break for Border either. Buskers also attracts all age groups.

Its called "Gypsy Rose" now, its a rock & blues bar.

Tends to be a young-ish (20s) crowd AFAIR

I'm an 'over-30' and I'm happy to relate that when I enter somewhere not specifically designated for the elderly, the music doesn't suddenly stop or people younger than me don't flee to the exits.

No sorry haven't been to one yet. Will be over the next few weeks although the next club I go to will probably be in Galway City (if they have any over 30's clubs). Will post up again when I eventually do go to any over 30's clubs in Dublin City.

Yea so they are not all 18-25 in the places you go to. Maybe if they were you would agree with me.

The old Eamon Dorans has a "80s" nightclub downstairs called Madonna's.

That music/scene caters to people in their 30s I'd imagine.

I lived in Cork for years and the vibe is completely different down there. The young un's don't really go to the same places as the mid twenties - thirty's crowd. Reardons, Crane Lane, Old Oak, Cyprus Avenue, Sin E etc.. all great places to go where there's a great mixture of ages that blend well. The glitterbelles & swankyboys tend twards Havana's, Cubins et al... I've not found it as easy to find that vibe up here in Dublin - Whelan's ain't bad but am following this thread eagerly to hear ppls opinions on new places to check out! :P

Interestin'. I lived in Dublin between the ages of 27 and 29 and didn't notice a way younger crowd in the places I went to - I guess it depends on the kinds of places a person's into. I used to go anywhere on that stretch from Dame Street to Camden Street. Maybe try 4 Dame Lane OP? (Think that's what it's called).
As for 80s places being for 30-somethings - well yeah, most 30-somethings remember the 80s, but 90s nights would be relevant to them too. Any club night that's designated specifically for over 30s seems to be like a grab-a-granny night and for those far older than their 30s...

Depending on the band playing on a particular night the crowd downstairs is probably mostly mid 20's to early 30's.

Upstairs is a more mature crowd.

Knightsbridge at the Arlington hotel or Cougars I think its called now, mostly over 30s.

A lad I know was dragged there one night and he said it was like grab a granny, he didn't stay there very long!

OP, be wary of a lot of these recommendations, some of them are very much a meat market for the older party lover, but you're as likely to find swingers and over 50's as you are an older than the average night club goer venue.

I think nightclubs and the over 30's is a bit of an oxymoron. Mostly because the nightclub scene has gotten very old by that stage. (in my late 20's and have been over night clubs for a few years now), the best place to meet people and have a great night for the slightly older crowd is usually in bars that can have live music etc., but not a night club really.

There are lots of bars around Grafton st that personally I quite like, such as Keoghs, The Duke, other bars like O'Donoghues on Baggot St. (and most Baggot St. bars) have an older crowd, Staggs head, 4 Dame Lane is more nightclubby, but can have an older crowd, also places like Sin e and the Stephens Green end Camden St are decent.

A lot of places in the suburbs too, such as Russels in Ranelagh, which is a good area for the 30 somethings to socialise.

If it's strictly nightclubs you're looking for, then a lot of the over 30's and specific 80's / 90's nights in clubs as suggested are your best bet.

Just a few ideas, hope it helps.

OP you're not even 30 yet! Those over 30s nightclubs are waaaay over 30s if you know what I mean. I'm in my early 30s and just go out to wherever I want - try any of the late bars/clubs between George's Street and Camden Street, the Grand Social, Twisted Pepper, Krystle, No 5, the Sugar Club, 4 Dame Lane etc etc. There will be people in their 20s, people in their 30s and probably a few older than that too.

Thought I would add my couple of cents on the over 30s plus Dublin single scene. My experience is as follows ; firstly Bojanjges, used to be great before they made it linked to Dicyes garden and all that happens now is young people coming down to laugh at the "desperate". I was there last December and counted 12 people in it at 1.30 am. It’s exactly the same that happened to the brilliant Dance Macarbe before they opened the private older club up to the howl at the moon messers. (although don’t hold it against them, I was young myself ). Then there is O’Seas which has the makings of a good night apart from a well dodgy element that go there, but some genuine people too, a much older crowd . Barrys Hotel? Forget it, a fraction of the sise it was and mostly a local crowd and a few bewildered, no nurses in sight. Sachs Hotel then which was a legend is history, its called Ice cream or something now and wants to be Krystal. Rain gets the crowd, but a lot of the women that go there are even rougher than the men, and handbags disappear a lot I am told. So what does that leave? The answer is not much. People are internet dating and travelling in my opinion. If anyone can advise any different I would like to hear. Cheers

Have to say I am not from dublin but am there often and went to BoJos (Bojangles) - empty as another poster said, Rain - ROUGH - knackerville!!! And as for O'Shea's (Merchant) opposite Brazen Head.... go in to gaze in amazement at the oldest, muttonest dressed as lamb, roughest and knackerist crowd in Dublin on their night out!!!! Wow - rough....
Vanilla in the old Sachs.... only there once, younger crowd.
