Telltale games will be releasing The Walking Dead game based on the graphic novel of the same name. Should be out mid 2012. It will have episodic content, so kinda like back to the future, and will concentrate on the human emotion side rather than the 'take on the horde' style like other zombie games. I know there will be a load of 'Another not needed zombie game ' but if done right this could actually be a nice little survival horror title.

Ok, before even watching the vid I'm hoping that there are no likenesses to the terrible Walking Dead tv series (even with character design) that's deviating a little too much from the source material.

So if this is actually based on the comic to the letter it might be fun.

Wait just watched the first thirty seconds of the vid and it mentions them picking out favourite bits from the comic books. I've faith in this.

Hang on. About two and a half minutes in. Did they just "steal" the game dynamic from Amy? "It's not a five hour escort mission". Well you've just ruined it by putting a needless child character in as your "help".

Ya they said it will be based on the comics but there is a bit on the video where they tell you to skip to a certain time on the vid as there will be spoilers about the comic series. I haven't read the comics yet but the tv series is so bad. Still have to watch it every week tho.

I think you're getting the cart before the horse in this respect. I don't want to derail this thread and talk solely about the comics, but I'd highly recommend reading them before watching the tv series. It's slow to get in to it, but it focuses more on the survivors and what society becomes after the outbreak.

But yeah, they're not really selling me on this game. And from the character designs it looks a tad cartoon-ey? Which isn't a bad thing (Darkness II), but I hope they do the source material justice.

Another not needed zombie game

Telltale are pretty good with episodic games, this might be worth looking into.
Also, the graphical style looks great.

I'd have thought Jurrasic Park would be an idea that would be near impossible to f*ck up, yet they managed to do it. So I'll have to wait and see how this turns out.

I was interested until I read it was an "Episodic" release. No sale

Well they usually do a collection of all the episodes at the end which ends up costing about the same as a full game, so you can just wait to see how it turns out. That's what I'm doing, anyway.

Why? It's looks like reading the comics first ruined your appreciation for an excellent TV series. Looks like it would be better the other way around.

I don't think zombie games are over done, they've all been more or less the same so far and there's plenty more to do in the zombie world.

The TV series is a disaster. Incredibly poorly written characters, a pacing nightmare, innumerate plotholes and ridiculous plot devices (Where has Carl run off to today?). Even the zombie sequences are nonsensical, I presume the game will come with an auto-headshot feature also?

its a terrible series, started so well and it just got worse every episode. its soap opera melodrama and the occasional zombie, if the characters were strong enough to keep the drama doing then lack of zombies wouldnt be so bad, I want everyone in the show to be eaten due to their sheer stupidity.

Nice find with the Gameplay vid SteveO. Had to laugh at one of the comments "I'd prefer a generic FPS zombie game than a 'Press X to Jason' zombie game" hahaha

Tbh I couldnt imagine doing a game doing the series justice other then going adventure game. Walking Dead isn't about killing zombie hordes sure.

So this is out on the 24th April. It's up on Steam with a 10% discount if you preorder. $24 before discount. but is that for the whole 5 episodes or just one? It would want to be a pretty amazing game to put down 100 quid for the lot.

EDIT: I just read it's $5 for one episode. PC users have to pay full amount up front while PSN/XBLA can pay individually.

IGN said the first episode took them 2 hours to complete and said it was really good

    http://ps3.ign.com/articles/122/1222545p1.html

    <H2>Key Features:
    • Based on Robert Kirkman’s Eisner-Award winning comic book series, The Walking Dead allows gamers to experience the true horror of the zombie apocalypse
    • A tailored game experience – Live with the profound and lasting consequences of the decisions that you make in each episode. Your actions and choices will affect how your story plays out across the entire series.
    • Experience events, meet people and visit locations that foreshadow the story of Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes
    • Meet Glenn before he heads to Atlanta, explore Hershel’s farm before Rick and his group of survivors arrive and before the barn becomes a notorious location in Walking Dead lore
    • You’ll be forced to make decisions that are not only difficult, but that will require you to make an almost immediate choice. There’s no time to ponder when the undead are pounding the door down!
    • An Adventure Horror game of 5 monthly episodes. Features meaningful decision-making, exploration, problem solving and a constant fight for survival in a world overrun by the undead
    • Artwork inspired by the original comic books
    </H2>
Well I'll be keeping an eye on it for PS3 but for the PC'ers, the specs are below:

    Recommended:
    • OS: XP Service Pack 3 / Vista / Windows 7
    • Processor: Core 2 Duo 2GHz or equivalent
    • Memory: 3 GB RAM
    • Hard Disk Space: 2 GB Space Free
    • Video Card: ATI or NVidia card w/ 1024 MB RAM (Not recommended for Intel integrated graphics)
    • DirectX®: Direct X 9.0c
    • Sound: Direct X 9.0c sound device

Also, if you preorder for PC you get entered into a competition to become a character in a future epsiode who gets killed and turned into a zombies. 4 runners up will get parts in a future episode as a zombie. Cool idea. If you buy the season pass (all episodes) on PS3, you get a premium XMB theme.

    Details in linke below:

    http://www.telltalegames.com/walkingdead/page1

$25 should be about 20 euro which I would gladly spend 5 episodes. I'm still playing I Am Alive and really enjoying it, well worth the 15 quid.

EDIT: Also, here is the 3rd episode of Playing Dead, small show talking to the devs, writers, etc. In the vid below, it shows some gameplay on puzzle solving and how your choices affect the story change. Looks really class! Can't believe that woman put the batteries in wrong tho

    Gameplay from 7:00 to 10:00

IGN gave the first episode 8.5. Sounds really good, think I might even put down 20 quid for the season pass.

So how much are the individual episode ?? Is it out now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I think it was out on PC last night, it's out on xbla and psn today. Each episode is 5 euro but on PSN, you can buy a season pass for 20 euro so you get one episode free and the premium theme as above. Still deciding whether to get the season pass or not. It's getting great reviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Reading some user reviews on gamefaqs, everyone seems to be really happy with it. The trophy list is out as well. A trophy every time you clear a chapter, with 7 chapters in an episode and a platinum at the end. I would avoid the trophy list though as it could be spoilery.

Just got 20 euro psn credit off gamesnash, gonna get the season pass as soon as I get home!

I picked up credit in the square yesterday for this.
It's $19.99 for season pass on US PSN.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Ya, absolutely sick of the Europe PSN charging more for games than the US. Same with I Am Alive. Season pass is $19.99 and in europe it's €19.99. Doesn't take a genuis to see something is up with that!

EDIT: Just looked up xe.com. $20 = €15.13. I can understand paying an extra euro or 2 to round up the price but an extra fiver is cheeky. I put in on Sony Irelands facebook page but prob won't get an answer. I remember checking the same with I Am Alive and someone said it's Sony decides the pricing

Sure they're the same with the sterling exchange rate. Think it was when the Ico/SotC collection came out. It was £20 and €30. Think they use the same calculator as play.com.

Still, €20 is pretty good for the season pass, I think.

    HAHA exactly :D

Ya, it's still a great price, 20 euro for an approximate 10 hour game. Gonna be crap waiting for an episode every month. I spose it gives me a chance to catch up to the comics.

I haven't read this(yet), The Walking Dead: Choice Matters:

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/04/25/the-walking-dead-choice-matters/.
Hey everyone! Hoping you’re all enjoying the zombified fruits of our labor now that the first episode of The Walking Dead arrived just yesterday on PlayStation Network. We’re insanely busy already getting the next episode ready for all of you, but I wanted to pass along this sneak peek at a video that will help explain why all of the choices you make in the first episode will matter from episode to episode, and also all season long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,533 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    Want. Now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,901 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Gametrailers posted a psn code for the game on twitter 30 minutes ago. Id say its well gone now tho.

Really liking the game, about half way through and actually care about the characters and what happens them. Very nerve wrecking trying to decide what to say with the timer and the zombie attacks have great suspense.

Just finished it there. Really enjoyed that.
This could be the best €20 I've spent in a while.

Some cool decisions to be made that will affect the later episodes which is unfortunate in a way, I'll try to explain, (may not make sense, but here goes) -
The save I have now should be my save I use for future episodes, carrying over the decisions I made during episode 1(good/bad/whatever). Which is what I want, but I now want to play through again and make different decisions, which I think will overwrite my original playthrough save and will therefore have a different affect.
Copying is prohibited, so can't copy to a USB and the put it back after extra playthroughs.

EDIT: Has been pointed out that there are three saves - all is good so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,533 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Finished up last night in the Pharmacy, guess I'm near the end of it. Some brilliant scenes and the story just keeps hitting you with an emotional shovel right in the face! Don't know how it will end but will def replay it. Only bad thing about this is I have to wait a month to play the next one!

they should make a game out of the mexians taking care of the old people in the first season, it'd be like sim hospital but with added zombies.

Well I won't have to worry about waiting a month for the next episode. By the time I get around to playing it, it'll be on repeat. :)
