Hey my friend (Female) has a single room available near GMIT (5 minute walk) available if anyone is interested. It is €65 a week and this includes internet and bins. Its oil heated and has been newly insulated so shouldn't take too much! :) There are currently 3 girls in the house.

PM me if interested or you have any questions!

Somewhere around College Road or maybe Bohermore. Not the shortest of walks but it's a good halfway point for both of ye.

I'm sure that if you ring them and ask they can give you three options

1.) Pay for the whole year before 31st August.

2.) Pay it in two installments (each semester) 1st payment probably needed to be payed before 31st August(1st semester) then the 2nd payment before the 2nd semester starts.

3.) you can pay monthly by standing order through your bank account.

These were the options given to me but i'm not going to Glasan, but i'm sure Glasan should give you these options too.

    Hope this helps you :)

From now on if I have to move a thread because somebody didn't read the rules they'll be warned. Really annoying at this stage.

Glasan is the best for first years, most lively and right across the road from the college.

Cuirt na Rasai and Tir na gcapall are too far away from the college really, think its around a 30 minute walk so can be very annoying if your walking, there is a shuttle bus service now though which brings you right to the college so that would be a lot better.

Glasan is really the main spot, the other two would be quite and out of the way.

Im a first year at GMIT and was wondering should I get accommodation in Tir na gcapall or Glasan?

I know that Tir na gcapall is a little far out from the college but theres a shuttle bus that runs to and from GMIT.
Glasan is right beside GMIT but i heard that security there is very bad and theres often break ins etc.

So which would i be better of choosing?

Glasan - If you want to fully enjoy the first year experience, its better for going out, more lively, always loads of people around and house partys every night. Don't no who's been telling you about the break ins but the two years I lived there I didn't have any trouble.

Tir na gCapall - If you want piece and quite, think it could be cheaper aswell. For me its too far away though, glasan is way handier.

    Hi all,

I'm moving up to glasan on the weekend... and I was just wondering, do the bedrooms have locks?

I will b up and down to galway alot and plan on leaving my laptop etc up there on weekends...and i'm aware that its likely people will b in and out of my house throughout the year..so i'm just wondering how safe is it to leave valuables in bedrooms?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 137 ✭✭Densino

Thats a good question, I know the student acc for NUIG have key cards for the bedrooms but i'm not sure about Glasan.
    Surely they would though

Ah there's benefits to student accommodation too. Not even sure I made the right decision yet to get private house but hopefully it will work out okay in the end. Loads of things missing faulty etc in the house I got where as ya kinda get everything with student accommodation, well where I was in student accommodation before was brill but that was UL.

    Hi guys,

I have two colleges on my CAO and one of them is GMIT, but I haven't that much money for accommodation.

What is the cheapest student accommodation that is solely for students and includes all bills that is within a reasonable walking distance to the main campus?

    Thanks!! :)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,267 ✭✭✭Dublin Red Devil

He guys. I'm staying in Glasan right now, but I'm thinking about going somewhere else next year.

I like the closeness to the college, Definitely a plus.

But what I don't like is how loud it is. Even if you have the TV volume low or have normal conversation. It can be heard throughout the house. The sounds and vibrations go through the floors and the walls like a sheet of paper.

The bills are very high and the management are dicks.

Can anyone recommend reasonably priced accommodation that is still close to the college but maybe more suitable to a more mature student, Less noise and loud music, reasonable management.

Sorry to hear about your experience with Glasan, Dublin Red Devil. You've really put me off going there. I like my peace and quiet! Going by their website, they seem very strict.

Hoping to go to GMIT in September as a mature student so I also would like to hear about other peoples' experiences with student accommodation.

You sound like the kind of person i'd like to share accommodation with. If you find something better let me know. ;)

    Will do. :)

The cost of cancellation fees is a joke. €250 if you cancel with Gleann na Ri.

    Hey,

I'm thinking of staying in Tir na gcapall but I looked on street view and it seems fairly far away from the main campus!

By any chance was there cycle lanes built recently? I don't drive and I really don't want to cycle on the road.

Best bet is going for some shared accomodation & forgetting about student acommodation man; both less chance of having some breed of an almighty party keeping you awake all night when you've some important practical the next day/having some breed of security coming banging on your door on the one night you may make noise over a whisper.

@Dublin Red Devil/Wake_Up_Donnie: Gonna be going to GMIT myself as a mature in Med. Science (hopefully) in September myself. If y'all are looking for extra matures for some gaff: count me in.
