Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We had both editions. As kids we would combine them across the floor with a car ferry running between them, this was well over a decade before the Sterling Breakup. We added rules. The game would go on over a weekend. Its a wonder Waddingtons / Parker Bros didn't come up with this one :p

It has to be the Irish one - although it's been ~15 years since i've seen the board. I could never figure out why kimmage was cheaper than crumlin

Anyway, has it changed much through the idiotic bubble years?

Ghost estates in Leitrim and Laois could be used for the cheapest squares.

How is the English one the original? It's an American game.

This is what the original version looks like: http://abagond.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/monopoly1.jpg

The original version, invented in USA, was set in New Jersey, I am pretty sure

The Irish edition has been renamed the NAMA edition...

You have bought a house in a ghost estate, loose 250,000 euro.

You developed a hotel in the IFSC that now lies empty. Loose 8,6 million euro.

You're holiday apartment in Croatia still lies unfinished, loose 180,000 euro.

You have drawn the 'get bailed out by the state card', skip over 'go directly to jail' and proceed directly to 'resident in the UK for bankruptcy purposes'....

Colour me dumb. I was sure Waddington's had invented it.

It's "dead" because people try to use AH instead.

    Thread moved from After Hours.

The UK one. Had it growing up in London, took it with me when I moved here. Loved that game, had some real long marathon sessions playing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

Whilst it is an American game and was originally based around New Jersey, outside America the London one is generally seen as being the 'normal' game in the English-speaking World. I know a few Aussies who have done the Monopoly Pub Crawl around London because that is the version of the game that they grew up with, for example.

I think it's good that Ireland seemingly prefers it's own one though.
