Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mine were of my intestine so that's why I had to drink it. First time was only two cups due to me being so thin. Last time I had to drink 'as much as you can' of a jug of it so basically the whole thing. They mix it with mi wadi but it makes no difference.

Was it an MRI or a CT Scan you where having?

While Contrast (or dye's) are common in CT, both Oral anniseedy tasting stuff and Iodine based injections, they are use less frequently with MRI.

They always hive me dye for both. The few times they tried a brain MRI without it they had to pull me out after a minute to inject contrast.
Must depend on what part of the body they're scanning.

As an aside - I know MRI scans are supposed to be more detailed than a ct but ct shows bone better. Ive seen both scans. With the MRI it looks like a pile of blobs, the ft looks clearer and defined to me. I'm not a doctor but it makes me wonder how the heck they can READ the MRI. My head looks like Swiss cheese!

    Im a radiographer.
I havent worked in MRI but have previously worked in Bariums, General Radiography and CT and am now, imaging breasts for a living. Except I injured my back at work last week - another story though.

You kind of have it right. Plain films are still best if you are looking for bony breaks (or the tech term fractures.) When it comes to the Brain CT is best following an injury as it can show bleeds/Trauma easier than MRI, We do use Contrast IV a lot for CT brain if looking for Masses tumors etc. MRI suck when imaging bone but are better for Nerves, Nerve lining and soft tissue.
Its all a bit like choosing an outfit for a specific activity. You have to match the one that best suits what you are looking for, or the look you are going for. :D

MRI Contrasts are still extremely expensive and not used often but that has started to change over the last few years.

Ah that explains it - tumour masses. But the MRI shows nerves and my tumours grow on nerves so you need both scans really. They never thought to explain that very well.
I've had 6 CT scans this year - waiting on another
    And 3 MRI scans

I'm amazed I have 2 brain cells to rub together as you'd get the impression from my history that I was a walking tumour factory.

It's good to know why they mix and match their scans!

Seriously, they're blaming Hurricane Irene on gay marriage in NYC.

TBH though most of the comments aren't English, I'm pretty sure. Especially no 9.

    Oh America.....
And you just know these are the kind of people who'll support Michele Bachmann for president. I'd like to think some of them were being satirical or sarcastic because that way it makes me lose less faith in humanity.

got strange urge to leave work early so I could go see my mother. I don't know why, I don't get the urge to see her often but I speed walked the 5k in new shoes and now my baby toe is squished like a marshmallow.

    Poor Fille :( *hugs*

Also that's lovely that you wanted to see your mother :) I want to see mine because she's in Spain but when she's home I hardly ever see her even though she lives 15 mins walk away.

    HELLO EVERYONE.

    I have returned.

I'm going to see my best friend and my godson tomorrow- he's just gone 5 and I haven't seen him in a year! Can't wait, he's seriously cool little dude.:cool::cool:

Aww- my own godson is just over 1 - they live in the uk. Keep saying they must organise the christening and I'm keeping money aside for the trip - every month it's "next month" or so. Thus I've only seen him once at Xmas. Mad.

I feel I should be making more of an effort to visit but when they keep arsing around over the christening I keep thinking I'll need the money soon so I'd better stay put.
He'll be old enough to tell the priest to f"ck off by the time they get around to it. Lol.

closest thing to heels I've worn in a while are my nike airs, they make me at least an inch and a half taller :) I missed those comfy air filled soles yesterday though but the poor things are battered and holey so I replaced them with a pair of dc's... not good at all, skate shoes are not good for walking in :( I'll have to get a skateboard. (or possibly a scooter but then I'll miss walking)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭Kanoe

I've never liked cycling, seems like too much effort and I'm lazy but I do like to walk..or stroll most of the time :o

Maybe broaden the search area? I'm sure a lot of it has to do with cutbacks though :( hope you find something soon

Just tried most hospitals in the south since I moves back home after completing the course seems as though if one needs a job one must not consider a career in healthcare. The gf is a caring assistant and can't get a job either

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭Kanoe

I know it might sound like a stupid question but could you go down an alternate route and do nursing or nurses aide? They were calling out for nurses in nursing homes in the papers all week, telling would be nursing stuents not to emigrate in order to find work that there was plenty for them here.

(or..going to throw it out there for consideration, back in the day ..when the economy could support it I remember a friend of mine left his position on the factory floor as health and safety officer to set up his own business providing health and safety training programmes for other employers. I only say this because I have to do two of these courses next week. Clever guy and he did well out of it too. )

I'm sorry I'm not from Dublin plenty of work up there for healthcare professionals , thank you for the suggestion though :)

I don't think healthcare is unique though.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Plenty of jobs for accountants
Plenty need for healthcare folks. Problem is there's need and what you get :/ cutbacks and recruitment embargos :(

Not being smart or anything. I genuinely see how badly more healthcare professionals are needed

Not really - some but it's limited.

was reading in the indo earlier that there were 35 carer jobs being created Dub southside at holysomething or other. Don't normally read the indo it just happened to be sitting there on the table and I'm even worse for remembering names, but it's on page 2 or 4 in the left hand margin somewhere near the front :o

Carers have to change bottoms that is totally off -putting in my case anyway

The U.K is great for hiring EMT's but the pay there isnt great

I worked mostly with mental disabilities in kids so it really didn't bother me so much. wouldn't do it now though. I did work for a bit with adults with disabilities and it was a different storey altogether. :(

    were you an ID Nurse?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭Kanoe

no, started out as a special needs assistant in schools and then went onto residential and worked as nurses aide for a little while.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭WonderWoman!

was it boring ?working as nurses aide doesn't sound appealing - Paeds nurse would be the only sort of nursing I'd be into . Kids just love me -then again that would probably be my downfall

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭Kanoe

I think I was at burn out stage by the time I was working with adults, I couldn't hack the 12hr shifts and sometimes the clients weren't always that nice to work with..and could make life unbearable. The shifts were long and boring, spend half of it just waiting around with a beeper for a call to turn someone or change a catheter..and then doing the daily stuff on top of that (dressing feeding etc) I used to love working with kids though and did that for about four years. My own one was young enough at the time (as was I) so I was in a good place for it too and it seemed like second nature working in that kind of environment, the people were nice, the kids were a great laugh and the hours were amazing as it was school term and paid summer holidays :D was nice route to go down and looking back I probably had it too soft because I just couldn't hack working in nursing homes or residential places with adults for long after it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,212 ✭✭✭WonderWoman!

I did my EMT training and I remember a few of the calls we went out to we were dealing with kids the person supervising me wasnt impressed with my way of distracting the kids. Kids have a better way about them than adults I find .
Highlight of my training - making someone laugh so much they said I was like a fresh faced Joan rivers or an Ellen .
My point : I love EMT work

thats the first thing that got told to me .I did my placement in Cork had to say I had my fair share of car accident calls aswell as cardiac arrests I only cried once - that being said each case is as heart breaking as the next . Bringing people as young as me out of wrecked cars was awful:( - Think by now people would learn about speeding
