Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pyro's €1k to €10k challenge

I'm going to do this for the lols just to see if I can do it over as long a time as it takes. No set limit and I'll try take it handy.

No reasoning for the moment as I just can't be bothered doing more typing but everything will be researched just like my daily donkey thread. None of my horses from there will be posted here.

For the time being, my max bet on thread is €50, the minimum is €5. Stats and all will be kept.

Shit or bust pretty much. More bets than I usually do too. On all sports as well, not just horses. I'll be using Betfair on certain things for this log but I'll often take best odd guaranteed for the horses.

    Wish me luck!

    1:30 Leicester - Red Law - €5 @ 33/1 (Bet365)

    2:30 Leicester - Anquetta - €20 @ 9/2 (Bet365)

    2:20 Southwell - Je Suis Unrockstar - €25 @ 7/2 (VC)

    Total Staked : €50

Red Law ran a good race to come 3rd @ 33/1. Jumped well and traveled well for a long time but couldn't match the main two in the run in. Happy enough to get a good run for my few quid.

Anquetta wins @ 5/1 (15p R4) to give me my first winner of the new log. He jumped a few fences in bad fashion but still traveled well enough throughout and had to grind out a win in the end. Don't think he'll follow up though, such an awkward horse.

Je Suis Unrockstar finished a few lengths off the pace in 5th. Got caught wide and plugged on at one pace. Still worth keeping with him based on his previous run, which was probably a career best.

I think my other thread is cursed for the NH season. Can't buy a winner on it but I get a 5/1 winner and 33/1 place from my first 2 NH bets. Annoying!

Cheers lads, much appreciated. It should be fun to see if it's even remotely possible. I'll be doing my best to stick to a strict staking plan and hopefully it'll work out in the long run. Happy with €55 profit so far on the first day though, especially with my recent luck.

Slow and steady will hopefully win the race.

    Final bet for the day.

    Bet #4 - West Ham vs Birmingham (Over 2.5 Goals) - €15 @ 5/4 (Coral)

Top man is ol' Ben. :) Should of covered the overs easily if it wasn't for him making numerous top notch saves in the first half. Finished 2-1 to Wet Spam so I'm happy out.

Cheers Baz. Taking it handy and going to try do this over a longer period of time than I'd like but slow and steady will hopefully win the race. 70 odd quid profit on the first day ain't too bad. I'll happily take that every day. :pac:

Great start Pyro...Love to see you reach €10k. Wish i'd a grand to start off with. Well i do but the other half would hit the roof if she saw me throwing it in into Paddy Power :D

Quick question Pyro do you plan on posting selections the night/hours before they are due to start or do you plan on doing any last minute betting?

  • Moderators Posts: 8,721 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Get rid of her EID and then gamble all you want. :p Cheers for the message. :)

Gav, the night before dude. Might have the odd one posted only an hour or so before but I'm not planning on it. I'll just do them after I've my other thread sorted, as it's my number one!

    Selections:
    • 1:15 Lingfield - King Supreme - €10 @ 13/2 (Bet365)

    • 2:25 Lingfield - Brandywell Boy - €10 @ 5/1 (Bet365)

    • 3:00 Lingfield - Waabel - €5 @ 12/1 (Bet365)

    • 2:50 Doncaster - Wild Desert - €20 @ 11/2 (WillHill)

    • 3:25 Doncaster - Dark Ben - €10 @ 8/1 (Bet365)

    • 4:45 Kempton - Tilsworth Glenboy - €5 @ 12/1 (Bet365)
    Total Staked : €60

Playing with profit for today. Lots of bets but one win and I'm either in profit or breaking even, which wouldn't be too bad. A couple of winners and I'm happy!

Even better, sell the roof to fund your betting. Two birds one stone!

Hey Pyro. I don't bet on horse racing very often and every now and then i have a wee bet on them on here with your selections. So i want to go with your selections for tomorrow and i only have a PP account but PP are not giving me prices only SP. So do i just put my stake on the SP or do i wait till the prices come in? Cheers

  • Moderators Posts: 8,721 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Hey dude, I'd wait and take a price in the morning if you're up. I hate taking SP in case it ends up really short and you've lost out on a few quid. It's hard enough to make money at this without giving the bookie another edge! They should have some of them priced up though. Can't check as oddschecker is down at the moment but I'd imagine a few are up already.

Best of luck whatever you do and welcome to the forum. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 964 ✭✭✭CriticEyes

Cheers Pyro. I will be up for the night so i will wait and bet on the ones that are priced up at the moment and wait for awhile for the rest. Thanks Pyro:)

The fuck won't this happen on my thread where I'm playing with bigger money.

    :pac:

Happy out and cheers for the messages lads.

Brandywell Boy ran like I do after a night out and smoking 20 benson, very badly.

Wild Desert wins easily. Traveled like a dream, jumped like a dream and is dreamy!

Waabel also won somehow. Baker stealing a couple of lengths out of the field and just holding on. Fine looking horse too.

The others were non-runners, which is quite impressive in itself.

    +€160 on the day.

According to Pete came 2nd. Well punted into 9/2 fav but got nailed on the line by a horse who hit 810/1 in running. Zitenka was poor.

Simply Wings came 2nd too, weight told in the end but was well backed into 11/4 and gave me a good run for my money. Flintoff plugged on for a respectable run but nothing much.

The Lock Master pissed in. :D Delighted with that one. Step up in trip was ideal nad Dubai Hills form worked out well.

Zebrano just won too. :D Flew home like he always does when on song and got the better of a decent bunch. Big Bay ran well for a long time but faded.

Togiak was awful. Got word for that one but it never traveled or jumped but that's life, can't win 'em all.

Good stuff again, made a nice sum for myself thanks to your tips!

I might be looking a bit too forward to the King George but do you go along with Kauto? I'm not too fond of the odds on. Although a fantastic horse, he is 11 now. An alternative for me is to go e/w on The Nightingale at 9's, what does you think of that?

And by the way, heres to a fantastic log!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭digme

    well done pyro :)

  • Moderators Posts: 8,721 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Cheers Mossyman, makes a change from my other one anyways! It's funny how results are good when I don't bother my arse to give reasoning. :pac:

Wouldn't back Kauto due to the price either, wouldn't back The Nightingale at that price also. He's much too short in my opinion. Henderson's Riverside Theatre is the one I'm interested in at around 16's but I'm still trying to weight up the options. Trying to find a horse to place is the best way of getting a decent return out of this race imo. There's no value in Kauto and I wouldn't be 100% convinced that this'll be a stroll in the park for him either, just didn't impress me at Down Royal although he should improve tenfold for that. Nacarat was interesting until the ground got so soft, now he's massively opposable. Long Run could be a machine around Kempton but I really dislike the horse for no apparent reason! Although I hated Workforce for a while, then fell in "love" with the beast when he won me numerous wheelbarrows of money in the Arc. :D Maybe Long Run could do the same?! Who knows but I'd oppose him too.

Riverside Theatre is the one I always keep going back to. He may not want it so soft but he's a serious animal, unbeaten at Kempton in 4 starts, jumps well, travels well and should improve for the step up in trip unless I'm way off the mark. He has the better jockey of the two Henderson ones that's for sure. 16's just looks too big for a horse who has a lot more improvement to come. The ground is my only worry. He's also really good when fresh so the 2 and a half months off the track will do him no harm. That's my current angle into the race but that could change, I doubt it though.

Hopefully it'll be a good log in the long run (see what I did there?!) and it'd be class if I reached the target. I'll be gradually upping the maximum level of my stakes and with a bit of luck, I'll get there in time. Cheers for the message. :)

Cheers Digme. :D Some more winning days and I'll be a happy man!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,758 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Might be worth your while doing your big priced ones each way.
Youve had a 20 and 33 placed so far. Luckly for me I strayed from your method so had both ew.

  • Moderators Posts: 8,721 ✭✭✭x PyRo

lol I didn't even know Big Bay placed! I was too busy being delighted that Zebrano got up. :pac: Just watched it there, cracking effort from him. Just goes to show that dutching may prove some nice dividends if I can get it right.

Such a contrast on this thread to my other one. I'm not making gigantic profits or anything but €300 in 3 days ain't half bad.
