Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was driving through Oughterard last week and stopped off at the river. Had a scout around and it looks very inviting. Has anyone fished it before, what to expect etc?

Not much info on it on line, just goes on about Corrib really. Cheers

Fairly acidic water so small size trout, it gets a run of salmon and lake trout from July onwards but they run straight up to the lakes above. Most locals leave it alone as a spawning tributary, just a few lads fishing for salmon at the falls when there's a flood...

Cheers mate. Will prob give it a miss so. Just looked like a nice river, but a bit out of the way if not worth fishing!

Ah its just so shallow and has good holding water in the lakes that fish just run upstream pretty quickly.

Later in the summer the Finny River is worth a throw - gets a good run of lake trout from Mask and has loads of holding pools and nice fly water, the fish don't tend to run straight through it as much. Only open til 31 August but well worth fishing in late July-August.

I know it well yet never fished it. I stayed in finny for 3 weeks overlooking the river. Wasn't into the fly fishing at the time thought, wasted opportunity!
