Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just to add slightly to this, just because the online checker doesnt show it as received, doesnt mean its not in the system. Ive seen two different statuses for the same application between the online checker and the internal system. 99% of the time, its in the office the next working day.

    Hi Boards!

This is my first post so please bare with me. I recently booked a trip to Amsterdam, leaving on the morning of Thursday, May 31st, to see a concert at the famous Melkweg club. I lost my passport last year and quite stupidly, did not report this straight away. I did however report this and go through the process of acquiring a new passport just over 2 weeks ago and had all the required documentation, acquired with the help of a Guard, and sent it away to be processed. I got a letter back this past Friday, with all of my documentation inside, stating that my application could not be processed as the forms of identification were 'uncertified' even though the passport photos provided were new and signed by a member of An Garda Siochana.

Now, I am leaving in 9 days (unincluding today of course) and I have no passport so I am presuming that I will need to get an emergency passport, although no one has actually told me this but I have heard people saying that in similar circumstances, they got an emergency passport.

I am very confused and plan on going to the Passport office on Molesworth street tomorrow morning to see how I can fix the situation. Can anyone suggest exactly what I might need, and can I definitely make a flight in 10 days?

    All answers are appreciated,

    Many regards,

    Conor

I had to get one for my son (under 16) in February this year, we were flying on Thursday 9th of Feb, , I realised on the Saturday (4th) that my sons passport was out of date. I got both of ours 5 years prior and completely forgot that his was only valid for 5 years, mine for 10.

Got the required documentation, had more complications than you (presuming you are single with no children) had to get solicitors and so on. Got the documentation into Molesworth St. at 10am on the Monday morning and collected the Passport Wednesday the 8th February.

My advice - check the photos are acceptable, get them taken again and signed again - I did overhear someone there get refused as the photo was not of the standard - so it could be that.

If you satisfy the passport office (and they are great to deal with) then you will have your passport in time.

Thanks a million for taking the time to reply daltonmd! This is very helpful and you are right in your assumptions, I'm only 19! haha.. I will go into the office tomorrow morning so and bring everything with me including new passport photos, I'll get them signed in the morning. Also, is there any fee incurred? Obviously I have already paid the original fee, but do I have to pay anything extra?

No probs, additional fee is 55 euro on top of the passport fee. As I said, it could be the photos themselves - but I'm open to correction.

Replacing a misplaced passport(which was out of date), send it away last week via express and got it returned as the Post Office photcopied my documents and gave them back to me-they wanted the original documents. I need it for the 5th of June to go to the Euros. Think if I go in to the Passport Office and explain the situation with my travel documents I should get a replacement before my travel date? They seem strict!

Yes, if you go into them with the correct relevant information and a fee of 55 euros you can order an emergency pp (please see previous post) they will gie you a date, prior to your departure to collect it. I found them great.

Did you send in photocopies of photo id? Go into the passport office with photographic id, your photos, two forms of address. You do not need an emergency passport, just a sped up normal application. Bear in mind, this can only be done if you do not have two lost (in-date) passports.

Do not get new photos signed and stamped unless you are completing a whole new form, the form number on the photos must match the form submitted.

If you are unsure of anything else, ring the passport office ASAP, they will advise you how best to proceed.

You should get it back in time. Go in with all original documents, no harm bringing proof of travel as well.

    Hey guys I have a question -

My passport expired 5 years ago and I just never got it renewed, because I haven't left the country since then. I still have it, but as I was about 16 when the photo was taken in it, and I'm now 24, I look quite a bit different. I want to get a new passport, and I know generally when renewing you send in the old one - will that suffice when it's 5 years out of date and I look a bit different? (Put on weight, hair is a different colour and style).

I don't have ANY other form of photo ID, absolutely none, and that is why I'm trying to get a new passport. Do you think that with my old passport being so out of date, they're going to want some other form of photo ID too?

Also, this doesn't make me a 'First Time Adult Applicant', does it? I don't know if that means an adult who has never had a passport, or simply applying for your first one over the age of 18.

Thanks in advance for any help, my brain is frazzled right now!

Makes no odds just send in the old one.

And yes it is a first time adult application.

No they're not, a first time adult applicant is someone who never had an Irish passport before, they have had one (even though they were under 18).

    Less paperwork needed so. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 530 ✭✭✭_Roz_

Okay that's good to know. I'm still worried about not looking like my old photo (seriously, it's a HUGE difference, I had brown hair tied up and a thin face back then, I now have red hair and a far chubbier face), but I'm hoping as long as I can get a garda to sign my form saying they're happy I am who I say I am that it'll be fine. Just having images of getting a call from the passport office next week (it's an express application) and them being like, 'yeah the old photos and the new photos don't look anything alike and the witness we contacted has skipped the country. Or something.'

Yes I stress out about every tiny thing!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,332 ✭✭✭Mr Simpson

I wouldnt worry too much about it, its a pretty common occurance. Even if you look different, there are characteristics that remain the same. There are people in each office who are experts at this, you'll be fine.

Just to say, got mine sorted, picked it up last Friday.

The fee of 55 euro is extra to the cost of getting the passport btw - so you could be looking at about 140ish for your passport!

    You're very welcome :)

Actually, as a funny aside, I once processed a passport where the gentlemans previous passport was issued in 1955 and he hadn't had one since. We needed extra ID for that :D

Hmmm, I'm not sure about this one. I don't think it'll be given to you over the phone anyway, because of data protection. No harm in ringing customer care to check anyway.

All passports are bi-lingual, I think this applies to all EU countries.

    Edit: I'd forgotten about french

All that you need to do is translate your name and put that on the form, as everything else is, as mentioned above, in English, Irish and French.

You can't just do this though. To do this, you must have been using the Irish version for at least two years and have proof as such. Bank accounts, bills, etc in that name

Really? They let me change my name to Irish and drop half of my doublebarreled surname at once. They put a note on the opposite page saying "name on birthcert: x".

I suppose this was just after I turned 18, though, maybe they were more lenient for that.

It's quite complicated, and there are exceptions. But basically, its been clamped down on because a few *ahem 'undesirables' *ahem, realised that it was a nice easy way to change their name on their passport, and confuse a few foreign immigration officials.

Can you drop a name off a doubled barrelled name easily?

When I got married I added the wifes surname to mine by submitting a marriage cert. Can I reverse this now? I.e. drop her name and revert to my birth cert name?

"Witness Official stamp" - section 7
This is for my child who is getting her first passport. I was going to pop in next door and ask my retired friend to witness it... It says they have to be personally known to me and not a relative. He is retired and doesn't have any stamps...

If they not currently one of the professions listed they can't witness it.

Retired means you no longer work in that position. So I can't see how they would be in one of the professions listed.

It can be done with an APS1G form. Just Irish and French will be on the passport, no English.

BUT you must fill out the while form in Irish as that's what the G is compared to the E which is in english.

Are your bank accounts/ other documents in your original name or double barrelled, if you have two sets of documents in your original name dating back two years, it should be no problem. They just dont like people chopping and changing all the time.

Just go to the Garda station and get it done there, failing that, go to your GP. Just make sure they are one of the listed professions.

No APS1 forms anymore, its a revised APS2 form, even if you fill it in as Gaeilge, you will get a tri-lingual passport.

I'd like to get my passport renewed since it has been out of date for the past few months. When I went to look for it however, I can't find it anywhere. I looked all over the house. I can't remember if I just left it somewhere or if I lost it on a night out. It's been missing for a few weeks at this stage.

If I were to report it would it be better for my passport record to say that it was stolen rather than lost or does it make a difference?

Be honest, a false statement of loss could lead to trouble. It doesn't make a difference anyway.

hi, im going on holidays in 3 weeks yesterday (18th june) and just realised my passport is out of date , should i risk trying a express passport or should i get the emergency one? is there anyway of quickening the express even faster?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,736 ✭✭✭pawrick

You should have plenty of time - keep the receipt you get from An Post as there is a tracking number on it. Include copies of your travel details and note to say you need it back urgently.

Even if there is a back log which I have no idea if there is the swiftpost applications get priority over other general applications.

Can I just clarify something here, its not just aimed at you, most people do not require emergency passports, just normal passports with expedited applications. An emergency passport is a temporary passport issued by the out of hours passport officer to adults only.

Here are the list of prices
'Passport Express' Applications (made through the Post Office)

Standard Passport for a person aged 18 years or over submitted through Passport Express service (available at Post Offices)
    €80

Standard Passport for a person aged 3 years or over but must be under 18 years submitted through Passport Express service (available at Post Offices)
    €26.50

Standard Passport for a person under 3 years of age submitted through Passport Express service (available at Post Offices)
    €16

'Large' 66 page passport for a person aged 18 years or over submitted through Passport Express service (available at Post Offices)
    €110.00

Passport Applications made over the Public Counter in Passport Office Dublin and Passport Office Cork or through Ordinary Registered Post

Standard Passport for a person aged 18 years or over submitted over the counter at the Passport Office Dublin or Passport Office Cork or through Ordinary and Registered Post
    €95.00

Standard Passport for a person aged 3 years or over but must be under 18 years submitted over the counter at the Passport Office Dublin or Passport Office Cork or through Ordinary and Registered Post
    €41.50

Standard Passport for a person under 3 years of age submitted over the counter at the Passport Office Dublin or Passport Office Cork or through Ordinary and Registered Post
    €31.00

'Large' 66 page passport for a person aged 18 years or over submitted over the counter at the Passport Office Dublin or Passport Office Cork or through Ordinary and Registered Post
    €125.00

    Public Counter Urgent Fee

Payable, upon proof of urgent travel, for passports required to be issued within five days following application. This fee is in addition to the appropriate passport fee as set out above.

Please note that this is not an 'on demand' service and applications will take a minimum of three days to process.

    €55 -Adult

    €30 -Child

Out of Hours Emergency Service Administration Fee

This is for the issue of a temporary passport of limited validity by the Department's out of hours emergency service.

A further application must be made for a standard passport for any subsequent travel. The payment of the appropriate fee as set out above will apply.

    €110 - Adult

But you say that an emergency passport for a child is €55..?

Actually I hadn't noticed that, I took the price list straight from passport.ie, where it also says emergency passports will be issued to adults only, however to the best of my memory, that price list is from April 2011, the rule relating to children's emergency passports came in after that, must've never been updated.
Out of Office Hours Duty Officer Emergency Service

Please note that during out of normal office hours the Duty Officer can only issue a temporary passport to adults only, provided the applicant has shown a previous passport

Passports can not be issued to first time applicants and children or those who are reporting their passport lost or stolen, save in exceptional circumstances e.g. emergency medical treatment.

Hi there, hope this is the right place to post.

I have been offered a position in The US (quite unexpectedly). In order to accept I need to provide copies of my passport (which needs o be in date for 3 years) spray they can begin processing my VISA.

The only issue is that my passport expires at the beginning of September. Given that I travel within the Eurozone as part of my work at least once per week, I was waiting for my three weeks holiday in July renew my passport. However now I need one by Wednesday at the latest.

Can anyone tell me whether or not it would be possible to Get a passport renewed in one day ie when the passport office reopens on Monday?

I need to let my potential employers know the full story so would appreciate any responses. I obviously have details of offer and VISA requirement documentation on hand.
