Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It is available to members but its not that hard to join - the same as opening a bank account. THe only thing is that you have to be living in Cork or studying there. If you can make any connection to the are you can join. A friend of mine recently told them that they work for Boston Scientific and they could join. Boston Scientific have a place in Cork but my friend worked in the Galway branch at the time and was only down for the day. They had no way of knowing as the ID card just says Boston Scientific. In this day and age though there should be no restirctions for joining a financial institution like Credit unions. If you read the papers it sounds like it might be changing so fingers crossed folks

you'd want to be a magician to pay the fees:D

The o2 card is robbery - I agree

Yeah it operates from your current account with them which they call a link account. I use it for everything now.

Sorry folks for not answering the queries - been really busy lately.

Yes, I have used it online. Just looking at my account from the last few weeks - I have used it on PayPal, Debenhams, motor tax online, boardsdeals, livingsocial.com, ryanair. everywhere really.

Quick question, if I buy a money card online and use my phone credit to pay, do I need to top-up my phone by at least €25? Because I know it's €5 to buy the actual card, but isn't there a min. card top up of €20 right then and there? I really don't want to top up by €90 euro unless I know for certain I have to... Thanks!

02 told me there is a 2.50 govt charge if used online as online is POS too. is this right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 384 ✭✭ANSI

say there is a euro left on 02. Is that added to the next top up?

    example
    euro on card
    top up 20 euro cost 20 99
    balance then 21

Yea lowering the top up requirements is great!

Also card to card transfers are now 30c instead of €1 and you can top up to 50K annually instead of 10K, haha, like any of us will need that, well maybe some will, you lucky basterds!

Don't understand why O2 can't make it easy to top up online, just like topping up your phone. Would actually use my card if it was.

Just head into any o2 shop and ask for a card. Tell them you want to put €300 onto it.

Hey, I need to book an apartment abroad. Although I won't be charged until the summer the website I was booking through needed the card info to make the booking. Gave them my 02 money card details but got a call back today saying there was a problem with it. (possibly because there was only €20 on it and not the €390 that the apartment will ultimately cost) If I put more money on the card and ask them to try again do you think it'll work? Thanks

They're probably trying to do a pre-auth for the first night, or maybe even the whole amount which if they are I would book somewhere else

    Thanks :)

It's exactly like a normal credit card, never had it refused anywhere - ebay, paypal, amazon, play and a few dozen other other websites including dabs.

I was buying 3v credit the other day and the guy in centra recommended the O2 card to me.

My 3v card is mainly used for buying records off ebay and discogs, many of them from the US and UK.

As these are paypal transactions, would these dollar and sterling transactions incur the 2.75% fee?

I came here for this too. Anyone got any idea? Its expensive enough buying records abroad as it is.

Paypal charges in the currency that whoever you're buying from tells them. Thats how PayPal makes money on top of their normal charges.

Can you just bring cash into an o2 shop with your card and they'll put that money on your card there and then for you?

Has anyone ever tried to rent a car with an O2 Money Card?
    If so, did it work?

Most car companies will pre-authorise the excess on the card, so that could be a problem...
As for paying for the rental, well its just like a normal visa card.

Yes and no. All credit cards have identifiers built in so that retailers can tell what type of card they are, and in this case identify that it is a pre-paid card. Pre-pay comes with risks for any retailer or service provider, because say for example you do damage or decide not to bring the car back, then the rental agency will not be able to charge anything to you as the card is not a credit card.

It is unlikely that pre-pay cards will be accepted by car rental agencies, but you'd have to check with the individual agency you are going to use as it may vary from one to another.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,670 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Well I did say paying for the rental is not the problem, but the pre-authorisation would likely be.
If someone doesn't bring the car back then there's not many people that have a credit card that would cover the cost

I had an o2 money card. It was ok except they charge you every time you top up and there's a government charge of 2.50. But it all adds up.

I now have a prepaid mastercard from moneybookers. The only charge is it costs €10 per year but thats it. Once you apply, it takes about two weeks. You can top up with your laser card too which doesn't cost a thing. There's no minimum amount to top up either. Its great.

Just tried, booking was no problem, paying for it was not either a problem, but at the actual collection of the car, the O2 money card was rejected for the one and only reason: my name was not printed on the card.

I've never used that website, but I imagine if they accept visa debit than it will work. I have never had any problem using it anywhere that accepts visa.
