A quick browse on Wikipedia (which we all know is never ever wrong) says he's a CB.

Listened to a Brazilian football podcast a few wees ago and they were raving about Dede being the best CB in Brazil, sounds like a great talent.

Supposedly Scholes is thinking of another year at OT.
Paul Scholes has signalled he may be ready to play on for a further season at Manchester United, according to Eric Harrison, the club's former youth team coach.

Scholes came out of retirement in January after ending his career at the close of last season, with the 37-year-old and United initially agreeing he would play on only until the end of the current campaign.

While Sir Alex Ferguson said on Friday there was no reason why the playmaker could not continue for another year, Scholes is yet to comment publicly on his plans. But Harrison, who coached the famous United youth team of Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers, told the Observer: "I talk to Paul reasonably often and I said to him when he started again: 'Paul, you can play another season.' He said: 'Do you think so?" I said: 'Yeah, I'm absolutely certain.' Because there's an old saying in football: 'You can't move as fast as the ball', and he makes the ball do the work.

"What happens with Paul, I think he likes somebody to tell him — not how good he is because he's been told that a million times — but for somebody to tell him he can go on longer. He still runs the game. When he came on against Manchester City [in his first game back in January] he completely ran the game. There were some great players against him, don't get me wrong [and] they could not get near him. When Xavi and [Andrés] Iniesta say he is as good as any midfield player in the world that is a compliment because they're not bad either.

"He has certainly changed his game but I think it's for the benefit of Manchester United because we certainly still need somebody who can control the ball."

On Friday, Ferguson said of Scholes playing on: "It's not something I've discussed with him but on the evidence of what we've seen I don't see why he shouldn't. When I said to him last year: 'You'll give me 25 to 30 games,' that wasn't enough for him in his opinion. But I think he may look at it differently now."

    Based on?

    Based on?

based on the fact this summer will be the last time united will get a decent transfer fee for him given his age and the fact he has been linked with a move to Real madrid so many times in recent months before his injury in the press, this longterm injury could stop that departure from happening though, another reason its just a gut feeling I have, I had the same gut feeling about scholes coming out of retirement and I was right despite the abuse I took here for suggesting such a ludicrous thing

Makes sense. Possible I guess given we have 2 young lads there to take over.

Meh to this. Im sure we all get these from time to time. We only remember the ones we get right (1 in 100s) and tend to ignore the ones we got badly wrong.

And you really think Madrid or any other top team are goin to splash out on a player coming back from a cruciate injury?!

    We did it with Ruud

    We did it with Ruud

We were buying him before he got injured though, not the same as some team making a random offer,i think he may see his career out with us all the same.

I didnt think he officially signed though? We would then assess the situation after his injury as any team would with Vida.

    Hope we keep him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,386 ✭✭✭d22ontour

I meant we wanted him, his injury only delayed it, plenty of articles about covering how he got letters from Fergie etc, he was coming to us and his injury only delayed it somewhat.
Nobody is courting Vidic at the moment and it will be a 30m+ bid to take him away imo.

Who do you guys think is a better player and would be best for united Parker or Tiote, if fergie persists with 442 in europe next season we will need a player like that to protect the back four, I havent seen him play Rooney up front on his own in a long time

Yes, I'll take action on this as well.

You have to remember we didn't exactly break the bank for him wrt a transfer fee. He will be our No1 CB for the next 3-4 years then we will gradually phase him out.

being watching Fulham game and Clint Dempsey played very good again.

you reckon he is good enough for the UTD team.

Rooney has scored twice against Tottenham, City and Liverpool and three times against Chelsea and Arsenal this season. Some going!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

De Gea with another solid performance .(hOpe I don't jinx him).

The perfect win. Shockingly poor performance and three points. Really only the city away game that sticks out in remaining fixtures.

I think city are going to have to beat united to win the league.

That's a big 3 points but in fairness we rode our luck.

First 2 goals completely against the run of play, whole thing reminded me of the Chelsea game but without the giving away 3 goals!

He was anonymous from Oct-Jan after a great start to the season.
    Extremely patchy player .

I think people were judging Young way too harshly tbh! He's only played 22 games for United and has been pretty good in around half of them. He's had some poor games though I admit.

Assisted the last min goal at Norwich last week as well.

Utd should go on and win the league now ,they have a far easier run in ,
one of the easiest in years.
In fact they could win the rest of their matches except the City match.

Man City have to go away to Swansea,Stoke,Arsenal,Newcastle,Norwich, and play Chelsea (sans Avb) at the Etihad.

Yeah, that's the type of player he is. Always good for an assist or a goal out of nothing though. SAF knew what he was getting with him.

Nani was very poor today, the only thiing of not he did was lose Modric for the throw in the build up to the second goal.

I know, but when the pressure is on, when the game is level or we are losing he tends to do more bad then good anytime I have seen him, even today he was woeful! Until the game was pretty much locked up.

I really hope he can become a player who consistently plays well for us.

Huge win today. Really think the league can be ours.

    Next four:

    City: Swansea(14), Chelsea(5), Stoke(9), Sunderland(12)

    Utd: West Brom (10), Wolves(18), Fulham(8), Blackburn(17)

Think we can get ahead of them in this period. Then hold it for the rest. Comes down to the match between them and us. I want to be there with a draw being enough, and then I think we'll take it. If we need the win, I'd be very worried unless Cleverely gets fit and form.

Exactly, sure no-one seen United losing to Blackburn at home anything can happen. Can see both going the rest of the season unbeaten though, I just think it'll come down to the game in the Etihad

In the league, yeah. Injuries have disrupted his form and appearances though tbf.

Always thought he was a very useful player and a good signing for us.

    massive massive result....

played poor for 65 minutes, once it went to 2-0, we controlled the game, but spurs were by far the better team. 2 great goals from young, he looks to be coming back to form, Rio and Evans were superb. de gea starting to grow into a huge huge player for us, he has been excellent since anfield.

the league is there for us to win now IMO. to come out of that run of games only 2 points behind, is just sensational.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭clubberlang12

Thing about Young is that he was never going to bring us up another level. He's a decent player but his form is way too inconsistent for me and despite some corners of supporters lauding his deliveries i think that 80% of the time they are quite poor. With everyone fit i don't think he makes the starting 11. But for the price we payed, we didn't break the bank and we got a premiership proven player.

On a side note, that was a massive 3 points today and up until the 42nd minute i was fearful we wouldn't be walking away with any points. Had that Adebayor goal stood, and i think it probably should have, it could have been a completely different game.

In the past I've been a massive critic of Evans. He has really stepped it up this season.Maybe the fight for places has made him up his game.

I think if in September you suggested Carrick and Evans would be up there for player of the season you would have been called a troll.

Football is a funny old game.
