Lovren confirmed as starting with Rodgers talking about a centre back partnership being formed with Skrtel.

That really says that Sakho is third choice.

Hoping to see a very attacking team tonight. We should be able to play a team like Bournemouth and win comfortably at home.

We should be looking to start Moreno & put them on the back foot with Clyne & himself pushing up the field - should be interesting to see how solid Lovern is with Moreno to his left

I would do the same, but hard to drop Gomez after one game, even if the tactics make sense. Firmino may struggle to do 90 mins, and with Lallana and Ibe probably on the bench, I'd be surprised if we don't freshen it up at some point...

I said a while back that I thought Lovren could push on this season, so he's getting a chance. He did good last week, tonight should be another clean sheet if we keep our head on. Then comes the real test.

If he passes the test in those games, then great - we have a quality CB on our hands. If not, then Sakho will get plenty of games before we have a chance to reassess in Jan.

I don't think Firmino will start he only got 12 mins last week. Im sure he will get al least 25-30 mins tonight though but I would prefer if he started to get him to match sharpness for Arsenal.

You can't win though. If Lovren had been dropped, then people would be screaming how we were dicking around a player by dropping them after they had a great game the week before.

Id like if we went 3 at the back for tonight. Its not going to be a walkover but 3 at the back should be fine. It would allow Skrtel Sakho and Lovren to all play while giving us more spots for attacking players such as Firmino

I think Moreno will start as he is more attacking than Gomez and I think Firmino will start (possibly play 60 mins) with a view to getting fully fit for next week

I'm not entirely convinced that Škrtel should be the automatic first choice in there either, unless we get bonus points for unseen shirt pulling.

Its nuts really. Lovren was class last week and should play on merit. You cant drop Skrtel. Simple as that.

Youd swear Sakho was immense the love he gets on here. I like him but he has probably cost us more points and goals than Lovren

I'd start with the same team as last week, just maybe upgrade Sahko to the bench instead of Toure.
Last thing we should be doing is changing up our team too much after a win, it would make no sense.

Na we looked fairly solid at the back last week, Clyne pretty much saved the points nicking the ball with his head from Diouf towards the end. Experiment in the EL and cup games but not in the PL, we need to build on last week and tweak from there.

They were all fine defenders before they came here. Toure was one of the invincibles. He has 2 premierships to his name.

Nothing wrong with them. The ingredients are there we just need a chef to make them taste good

He has been our best defender for a few years now including when Agger was here. The shirt pulling was only raised the year before last. Skrtel and Sakho should play together when we are favourites as Sakho is good with the ball at his feet to be fair.

Lovren is decent with the ball at his feet and has a bit of pace about him (for a center back). He is much more solid than Sakho against stronger strikers.

I really love the way everyone thinks our defense is sh1t when the fact is I would have our defenders (individually) over Chelseas and they are supposedly the best in the league

Not wing back. Wing. Everyone has to track back anyway regardless of whether your a striker or center back. I would have Hendo and Milner sitting deep to negate the need for wing backs. That would give our wingers more attacking emphasis to get the ball into Benteke who could knock down for Coutinho and Ings

Lallana was average last week, he's too ponderous where he needs to be getting at defenders. Ibe did ok but wasn't quite in sync with the rest of the attack, always relying on beating the FB inside or out.

Can allowed us to dominate midfield, so I'd bring him in for Lallana so that Milner and Hendo can sit higher and Coutinho get the ball where he can hurt them. And I'd start Firmino ahead of Ibe - he's a very experienced Brazil international and a serious goal threat, he needs to be blended into the team before the trickier games come up.

Every single one of them is liable to do something stupid/pathetic at any given time! Throw in Moreno and Johnson last year and it was a disaster area!

So they're all good with the ball, lovely, any chance they could do a bit of defending too?

Yeah Touré was an invincible, 10 years ago....

On what ****ing planet are our defenders better than Chelsea. Individually or otherwise?
