Hope so. The only reason I'm worried is we're travelling at peak season, it won't be easy to transfer to another ferry as availability will be very limited. Wouldn't be worried at all if we were travelling earlier.

Good...and ldlines will be operating away in peak season to make their money...so chill out.

Just got rebooked onto stena line from Cherbourg for sept 3rd. I was hoping it wouldn't happen. The only real issue is the extra 3 hour drive up to Cherbourg. Once we break up the journey then it won't be as bad.

Was that today paddylonglegs? I wonder if they're only sailing the rosslare route up to end of August?

I'd imagine July & August are safe enough.
I'm mid to end of July so not concerned.

Have heard great things about and have been given lots of recommendations about this place from people we've met at campsites over the last few years. I'm sure it's on Tripadvisor too for specific tips etc.

Looks great, but I think thats the wrong boat. The Rosslare boat is the Norman Atlantic, not that one.

Unless they are running both on the route. Or maybe both boats get the upgrade?

Oh sorry about that if it's wrong.
Hopefully they'll have something similar on Norman Atlantic.

Hell no, don't be sorry. It just builds the excitement. I gathered my kids around and showed them the picture, and how we could have a nice picnic on the ship. They loved it. I agree with the other sentiments, seeing our boat has been out of action (I think), for the last few months, hopefully they will have taken the opportunity to do a few little jobs on it to make it more comfortable. I was on the celtic horizon ship, her sister, and they are supposed to be identical. Functional is the word, not a cruise ship by any means, but for 350 euro for 5 of us return, I will put up with it. :D

Yep, got the EHIC forms sorted today.

Sorted the roofbox for the car, washed and cleaned etc.

    Kids are well excited.

    Getting close alright.

Definitely check, as they normally assign your car to a particular level on the ship depending on your car height.

I phoned them 20 mins ago and was told I had 2.2 M.(Just checked booking and it had 1.83m)

    Verso is 1620.

So how high is a Toyota Verso + a roof box?.

If I go over 2.2 I was told to phone them to pay €30+ extra.

    Going out on June 20th.

Well. I had the measuring tape out there. I like to add this stuff in olde money...im old skool he he

Standard car height about 5 foot....maybe an inch or 2 under or above.

My roof box is 14 inches tall

Space between roof and roof box, shall we say 6 inches....

Ok, so on that basis....2.2 metres is approx 7.2 ft.....or 86 inches.

So 60 inches (car), plus 6 inches, plus 14 inches is 80, and 80 inches is just over2 metres, so im ok so.

Now, a toyota verso is 54 inches (going on your 1620 cms) plus 6, plus 14 is 74 inches.....thats under the magical 86 inches.

If the car came with the roof bars as standard, they'll be included in the 1620cm, so another 6 inches to spare

Four weeks to go for me. So, here's my itinerary. I am very open to observations, criticisms, or general comments.

So. Me, wife, mother in law :(, two kids into car about 4pm and head for wexford. Wife needs gluten free so big feed in The Bailey, Enniscorthy on way down.

Into cabin and 1 seat on boat, beer, dvds, pass the time.

Arrive in St N and head for campsite. Its about two or three hours south of the port.

A week there, chilling out, exploring the area and on the following Saturday head for Disney. I figure out that's a drive of about 5 hours. Someone mentioned taking the train, but it appears the car goes separate to the people on those trains. Got a coo

Four days at Davy Crocket Ranch, Disney, maybe take one of those to myself and check out Paris. Drive back to St. N for the sailing home. Maybe try and get there early and check out the submarine pens.

Anyone any recommendations for things to see and do?

Anybody got any comments on anything ???? I seem to recall someone else mentioning they were on my sailing - 27th June.

Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie
Its reasonably close to Disney- at La Villette
Its Frances quite remarkable science museum- with different quarters aimed at different age groups. The history of industry exhibits- include an old Citroen 2CV assembly line, a Concorde- and a nuclear submarine. All exhibits are fully visitor interactive- you can go onboard the nuclear sub and into the ops room and see all the controls- the Concorde has guided tours- you're not allowed wander on your own onboard.

There are also exhibits governing all the different sciences- with interactive experiments you can do.

We normally spent 2 days there any time we were in Paris- its quite a remarkable facility.

Check your dates carefully- its one of the most popular exhibits in all of France, and weekends or holidays are really really out of the question.

    Website: http://www.cite-sciences.fr/fr/accueil/

Curious fact about where it is- it used be the biggest abatoir in Europe- before the French government decided to gentrify the area. The facility is independent- but under the auspices of the French Ministry for Education- and features special events for school children.

Most of the exhibits are in French, English and German- and the staff are lovely. Do try to use any French you have- it makes them happier......... :)

We're out the 27th too.. Have to look out for The Bailey in Enniscorthy. Will be back on line soon hoping to organise a quick meet up on the ferry on 27th. I will have the 3 kids with me, and not forgetting the wife too, so not sure I will be allowed much drinking time!

We got 2 x cabins, need to make sure they give us adjoining one's. Didn't think at the time of just reserving a seat instead for the 5th person. Price was so good overall I was just keen to get it booked and confirmed.

We are staying in Les Genet in St Jean-De-Monts and don't think its too far from St Nazaire either. We are thinking of the wild life park suggested earlier too on the last day.

Anyway, will start getting my info together soon. Our youngest passport renewal done today and the European health insurance cards renewed too.

    Chat again soon,

    Paddy

Or from a wifi hotspot? While I discourage people to eat out of that kip, McDonalds, I do believe they do wifi.
