Dublin bus have two family tickets, one costs €10.50 and offers all Dublin bus services including airline and expresso for 2adults and 4children for one day.

The second costs €16.20 but gives all bus services including expresso and all suburban rail services between Balbriggan Maynooth and Greystones again for a family of up to 2adults and 4 children!

Much better value than the rip-off prices charged by Irish rail for a day return on the dart, Irish rail are not even child friendly either with no option to buy child tickets from their ticket vending machines.

Needless to say the post above is not fully correct.

There is a one day family ticket for unlimited use on DART and Suburban Rail within the short hop zone available - give IE a call on 01 8286180 (Dun Laoghaire Station) or 1850 366222 to confirm the price (for whatever reason it is not on the website).

Nice to see that they are making all these options available to passengers:D And from the information available from the website tha information i gave above is very much correct as the irish fail site makes no mention of this family day ticket you mention!

The one day family ticket costs €15.70, for an extra 50cent you can have unlimited bus travel on all Dublin Bus services except the airlink and nightlink. Maybe this is why Irish rail chose not to advertise it?

Don't see how thats expensive in the context of things.

It's 2.50 for Adult Single (even just to/from City Centre from DunLaoghaire) or 2.10 (Raheny to/from City Centre). Bus fare to/from City Centre (Raheny or DunLaoghaire) alone would be 2.15 for an Adult. 2 Buses each way and you're looking at 8.60 each return if paid by cash. Of course there's cheaper Tavel 90 etc.

Sounds like its along time since you last got train.

East Link Toll is only 1.70 each way. Long live the car !!!! :p

I was being sarcy. My angle was a sarcy attack on Dublin being very much a car city, with public transport only being improved for the cynical reason of improving driving time for drivers.

    Being pedantic:
Assuming it's weekend with light ideal traffic. I'm also assuming person has a car anyway which has fixed service costs etc. so that short journey doesn't change yearly costs.

    Urban fuel consumption of 8l/100km and 18km from Dublin to Dun Laoghaire equals 18 x 2 x 8 / 100 = 3 l of fuel at approx 1.50 = 4.50. With tolls of 2 x 1.70 = Total approx: €8

    Still cheaper than train.
