Carrera would be OK but you'd be better off going for a Giant, Trek, Cube or Specialized.

For about €600 you'd pick up a nice road bike. If you look in your local bike shop a lot of them stock at least one of the bikes mentioned above.

If you live in Dublin you could also check out Cyclesuperstore for Cube, Giant and Lapierre or Cycleways for Specialized.

Bike shopping myself at the minute, looking for a hybrid.

The bike that seems to get the best reviews in the Specialized Sirus.

(best rating of any hybrid with over 10 reviews

Also looking at a Fuji Absolute since they have those in my local bike shop.

    Hi,

I went through all the hassle of researching what bike to get, my max budget was 700euro on the bike to work scheme.

My head was starting to hurt looking at all the different makes/models etc.

After about 3 weeks I started to get my head around most of the bikes available in my price range.

What I found was that most of the bikes in the 500-700euro range have pretty much the same running gear & specs BUT one make was a bit better, KTM.

Most guys know these from motorbike racing but the KTM bicycles are really well spec'ed. 95% of the parts are 3rd party, Shimano etc. and not yellow pack parts made in the manufacturers own facility (this might be a bit harsh!)

Overall the KTM was the one for me, they have a 'Life' range. I got mine from the Cycle Inn in Tallaght, well worth a trip out to them they do most of the other brands as well so it's easy to compare like for like.

    Good luck

    Kevin

this is what I just found:
    http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/B2WApplicationForm.asp
At cyclesuperstore you get 10% off every bike2work purchase.
Best bike for 500e? Not much difference between all brands in this budget probably. I would go for staff advice myself.
